hey guys,

i'm new to PC gaming and have already placed an order for a new pc. i have a 32 inch SHARP LCD HDTV, and i'm wondering if i can use that with my new pc or should i get a pc monitor as well... that is, will playing games on a big screen TV reduce performance?

thanks for your help

Make sure the TV you are buying supports full 1920x1080P resolution!!!

If it is 1365 x 768 or lower resolution, immediately cancel the pre-order! As that's worser than the average 1440x900 basic lcd monitor.

You won't enjoy your PC gaming at 1365x768 resolution. As the graphics would be very poor.

Like already stated resolution will come into play. For gaming you should be ok. For productivity it may not be the best solution. What TV do you have?

Okay then. What is the model of your TV?

If it is a HD TV and it supports full 1920x1080P resolution, you don't need to buy a new monitor!:D

I would settle for that.

You'll definitely be able to use your TV as a PC monitor. All TVs except CRT will let you connect your PC to your TV.

If your TV has a higher resolution, perhaps you don't need to buy a new monitor. But.. you may need to buy a new monitor if you are unhappy with the resolution of your TV. What I mean by that is that you may not like the low quality resolution such as 1335x768 resolution. And the graphics of your games would be bad.

I use 42'' 1080p 100Hz LCD TV as monitor. It's pretty cool to use such a huge screen.
BUT sometimes i feel it would look better if the resolution was a bit higher for the screeen size, as i'm sitting only 80-90 cm away.

So my advice to you - if your 32'' TV is NOT 1080p, rather buy a 22'' 1050p monitor. they are dirty cheap nowadays...
