I have played a little bit of The Witcher and thought it was pretty good but then again I was only up to the part where the dog from hell appears after I leave the cave with the witch (This was at my friends house). But I was wondering if I should get Dragon Age Origins instead? Whats your opinion?

I personally prefer the setting, story and gameplay of Dragon Age: Origins but to be honest, you can't go wrong either way. Both games are superb at doing what they do. I understand that's probably no help at all, though. :P

Try and get both if you can as they are both excellent RPGs imo. I really would not choose between them.

I guess I'll go ahead and buy Dragon Age on Friday since it will take me longer to beat it. 80 hours of gameplay is pretty long. So I should like it :D

I prefer The Witcher over Dragon Age Origins, but it doesn't matter which one you pick, they're both great games.

The two games are actually comparable in length. The Witcher also gets better and better as it goes on, your just starting to get to the interesting parts.

While you honestly can't go wrong with either game, my vote goes towards The Witcher

Both are excellent games and you really can't go wrong. If I had to choose one I'd go for Dragon Age simply because of the replayability. Between the different races, classes and origins you simply cannot see all of the content in one trip through the game. I've completed it three times, I'm working on a fourth and I've played several other characters at least through their origins and I'm still seeing new things. Not a lot of new things mind you, but it's still impressive that I'm seeing anything new at all at this point.

I have dragon age on my computer and love it. Would you say Witcher is more like an Action RPG? Is it similar at all to Demon's Souls?

Ultimately, you should play both. Dragon Age Origins is definitely more polished though.

I've played both, in Dragon Age I've propably spent nearly 300 hours, The Witcher one playthrough. They are both amazing games, but Dragon Age has got a much bigger replay value. The action in The Witcher is more action oriented while DA:O is more like Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights combat. The Witcher got some minor annoyances like the inventory, some NPC models and voice acting, while the only annoying things I encountered in DA:O was the occasional memory leak issue and some extremely cliche dialogues.

My conclusion follows the others though, you can't go wrong with either of them, but Dragon Age got the edge for my tastes.

Both are good. Dragon Age was only slightly longer for me. We're talking a length of about 40 hours for DA:O and about 35 for the Witcher. I will say that beyond the origin stories in Dragon Age the game is largely the same but does give some interesting dialogue options for different kinds of characters.

You must have been really rushing through DA:O. I did all the side quests, didnt skip dialog or cutscenes and my gametime on my 1st playthrough was 88 hours.

I'm NOT, by any means, saying that Dragon Age is a bad game. I have played it for almost 180 hours, in one playthrough.

These are my thoughts on it:

as has been said, both are great. for me, dragon offered more in the whole package though, partially through the ability to really create your own character, and partially through a larger and slightly more open-ended world.

At least we know that its these two games that people need to be chosing between...despite the fact that its been asked 3 million times already...Btw...the answer is...just get both eventually. They both go on sale a lot and will go for cheap cheap soon enough. Wait for Steam to put the Witcher on sale again. You'll get it for $10 or less.

You should play through them both but start with Dragon Age. Its a much more polished game with better combat. The party aspects of DA are really enjoyable, selecting people, talking to them in your camp. The Witcher is a great game but it still has a lot of technical problems. The Witcher also makes a few more mistakes with the game play - specifically areas like the swamp and the ice sequences.

I would recommend The Witcher, to me Bioware's stuff seems like a stripped down The Witcher to me, pretentious choices and things being too much black and white.

When I played the Enhanced Edition there were problems with optimisation and bugs like the game taking over 5 minutes to open the save folder etc. Glitches with the combat as well. Granted, this was a while ago, so maybe there have been more patches since then to fix these issues.

If you want a challenging, immersing game then go with the Witcher Enhanced Edition. DA:O isn't terrible but it's very cliche`, and isn't very tough to beat even on nightmare. Going with both will probably make you appreciate the Witcher more. If you do go with DA:O don't bother with the DLCs. They're a blatant rip-off and can be rather buggy.
