Alright couple of questions. First off, how hard is it really? I hear people say its challenging, but compared to, say, Dark Souls? SKyrim? Where does it stack up?

Second, what is the best difficulty setting to play it on? I love a challenge and loved Dark Souls, but in Alpha Protocol and Left 4 Dead, the hardest difficulty settings are incredibly difficult and unfair. Some games (like Deus Ex and RAGE) are too forgiving on those settings though. I want to go with Hard, but I want to know if I should move up or down depending on my preferred level of challenge.

Witcher 2 on the harder difficulties can be very challenging. Witcher 2 usually is hard because it is challenging, but unfortunately it does have certain times where the enemies are cheap and unfair. It also has a bit of a wierd curve where it tends to get easier as the game goes on apart from certain enemies I usually play on dark mode without quen for the ultimate challenge(Minus permadeath mode because i do make mistakes).

On my first play-through, normal difficutly seemed just right for the first act, a joke in the secod and just yawn (kill stuff with one hand on the mouse) from the point forward. So yea, I recommend stepping it up.

Well if you're fighting 1 enemy at once or even 2, you can usually just keep attacking them non stop until they die with veyr little strategy.

Skyrim on it's hardest setting isn't even as difficult as Witcher 2's easy. Play on either medium or easy so you know how to play the game, then go back on hard or Dark mode.

Easy is...easy. Not too easy, its more like normal than you'd think. Normal i actually had trouble with, but only with the bosses. I predict the harder difficulties, are...well.. harder, obviously. Though dark/insane mode with be a bit much, i guess. But if you want a challenge...

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll try Normal first then on a second playthrough move up to Dark or so (just skip Hard altogether), then maybe check out Permadeath mode (didn't know this even existed in the game) on a 3rd or 4th attempt when I feel I've mastered the mechanics.

If its as hard as Dark Souls though, I don't see myself beating Permadeath mode anytime soon if one cheap kill can get me early on.

TW2 isn't hard. it just so happens that you can, and likely will die, and apparently that's harder than most games recently, so it gets that fame of being super hard. it's a perfectly manageable game. however, there are one or two fights in the story that are downright cheap and annoying, and the combat system is kinda meh and takes some getting used to.

Yeah, the bosses were quite a bit more difficult than the rest fo the game. Normal in The Witcher 2 is a little more difficult than your average normal mode.

Play it on Hard, everything else is just too easy.
