Accidentally didn't finish. Of course the motherboard as well. I know the pc wouldn't be usable without a cpu, etc. but like I said what are the bare necessities?

? I don't think I follow. But I guess I will tell you what you need to make a computer. MoBo (if it has integrated graphics you won't need a gpu necessarily but if you plan on doing anything other then forums and word processing you pretty much have to) Cpu Gpu (read MoBo brackets) PSU Case RAM Hdd *optical drive (dvd drive) *you don't have to have one to make a computer as you can put an os on a hdd with a flash drive, but it is pretty much a common part for most all basic computers

Well I already know all of this but I guess what I am trying to say is what are the bare essential for the computer to turn on. Not do anything else but turn on.I am just making sure that if you have a PS and a mobo than you would at least be able to turn it on and of course nothing else.

lol, you know what? You may not even need The CD/DVD drive or the hard drive. You can run Linux off of a USB flash drive, and save your programs and other things on another flash drive. :P

Oh, just to power it up so it can get to the BIOS? Well...I guess just a motherboard, ram, CPU, power supply, and some way to make the power come on. I guess you don't 'need' a case for that, just trip the wires so the thing gets an on signal. But an on button that comes with a case is much easier.

Point taken. But I didn't really get the thread in the first place. Basically you could do it with a MoBo with integrated graphics, cpu and ram, and a psu. It would turn on and run. If you wanted to do some kind of cardboard box computer this is the way to go.

What are you trying to do anyway? Maybe to see the bios you'd need onboard video with your mobo, and memory + cpu with a keyboard hooked up? You can turn the power supply on all by itself, all you have to do is jumper a paper clip from the green wire to any black one on the main motherboard cable, plug the psu into the wall and flip the switch on the psu to on. That's how I leak test my water cooling loop and make sure all my fans are working with an old psu before running the actual system.
