The DirectX 12 Performance Preview: AMD, NVIDIA, & Star Swarm

ps: Don't mind the numbers between AMD and Nvidia, just see the diff between DX11 and DX12.

i think nvidia and amd both take most blame for this. developers can't do anything unless amd and nvidia provide good driver support.

If this monstrous performance increase apply to real world gaming, then it will force all of us to use windows 10.

Since DX12 is an exclusive of windows 10, at least at the moment...

Until I see a good developer start making use of DX12 I don't intend to move up (or down) to the universal Win10.

Looks good, but I realise my GPU won't get much benefit from it, as most games I play are limited by the GPU power and not CPU power.

No, it's a circle. Nvidia and AMD won't provide good driver support if most developer don't develop on Linux.

When developers used OpenGL and Direct3D, the GPU makers provided good support for those APIs. Once almost everyone started using Direct3D exclusively, what was the point in using precious resources on driver support for OpenGL?

but it's not just games, though. many popular distros of linux (think mint and ubuntu) make gpus go absolutely haywire because of lack of basic support, without the presence of games.

just imagine valve release hl3 for Linux for 6 month exclusive and they will release it in windows . how many ppl well download Linux ! that would be a hit .

I wish I had more time to get with group some new release for Linux , from my view even Linux distro are kinda effected by windows , in mac it is not , they do stuff with their way . we need something new nothing with start nothing with taps . Some thing Totally new . I don't know .

isnt sony use opengl as main api ? how they compile for thier machine ? i dont think they use DX . so the question is alot of engines compile for xbox and ps why they dont support linux too .

I hope people realize that Star Swarm was created specifically to exploit the bottleneck in DX11 with its draw call limit.

The performance in actual games will be around 2-5% and the performance difference between DX12 and Mantle will be negligible.

The biggest issue with DX12 and Mantle is that it heavily relies on developers and as many of us know already the probability of getting no performance benefit what so ever from DX12 is pretty high.

The upgrade is permanent, you just have 1 year to get the upgrade.

But I don't see a point to downgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

I believe MS recently registered Windows 365 so it is possible Win 10 will be subscription based as Office 365 is. With the first year being free.

Well it would make sense for the "free upgrade for the 1st year".

But in the picture, they mention windows phone 8.1. Who would use a smartphone with subscription based OS?...

It's like when steam gives away a free game, you dont have to pay for it after it stops being free.

It also is arriving via Windows Updater, just click the update and you have win 10
