TF2 Won't Play on Steam

I downloaded TF2 (After waiting for a really long time) and when I try to play it, it goes through the Valve logos but then suddenly closes out.

What do?

If it continues, then verify the integrity, defragment and verify again, for some reason that is the only way to make it work (had this problem since it went f2p, some got it fixed with just a file check, some with just a defrag some needed to do all 3 steps).

make sure to check that you don't have Quicktime running in the background, that's what kept making my source games freeze upon opening
