On an idealist standpoint I'd prefer D2D - no DRM, no online activations, just gives you a full working downloadable version of the game that patches normally. In practice I never use it and buy everything on Steam, though. :P

D2D isn't very good. However they do have lots of games so if can't find a game your looking for then they might have it.

Both the same. Neither one is better nor worse then the other in my eyes. I've never had any problems with either. I have no problems buying games from them and the same goes for Gamersgate.

Steam is so bloody intrusive and recently it's getting even worse - more and more games are forcing you to run steam in the background and have all the steam popups making their way up your ass. I hate it with a passion.

I've used both. D2D has given me some problems. Example: My CD Key for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory ran out of activations. They reply and state that the game doesn't require a CD key anymore - but that's certainly not the case. Instead of getting the game to work, they give me $10.

Wierd, i had the same situation one time, but they gave me a new activation key and said if it happens again to email them again. It wasnt for Splinter Cell though.

Steam hands down. I've purchased games with both and have never had problems with installing and playing Steam games but I've had constant problems with D2D games.

Curious as to what problems people are having with D2D. I've got about a dozen games over the years from their site over the years without a single problem, run out of activations just file a ticket and you'll get a new code within 24 hours no questions asked. I've actaully had a few problems with Steam, but nothing major enough to discourage me from using their great service. To the guy with the Splinter Cell problem, you need to download the patch ont he D2D site and it takes off the activation need.

Err no? Have you even ever used D2D? They have very similar prices, Dawn of war 2 is 49,99 on steam and 49,95 on D2D... Same can be said about 80% of the stuff on both sites, the only time Steam is cheaper is when a product is on a special sale.

I personally love Steam as a solid platform for all of my games. Infact even if I don't download my game through steam, I have a shortcut in steam. It's really nice.

However I do like how D2D actually gives you just the game that you can install, doesn't load the files indvidually. Makes backing up your games on an external harddrive so much easier.

I have had issues with steam in the past with my old computer in which Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines would not run properly (not the case on my new system) The two games I downloaded off D2D (titan quest and stalker) i have had no problems, and no trouble activating. However, since my new system, I have downloaded at least a dozen games off of steam in the last 7 months all of which run exceptionally well. Steam often has more appealing deals and it is definitely hurting my bank account.

Personally I prefer STEAM, my reasonings are, STEAM works pretty much all over the world (atleast the places I have been), D2D does not yet.

Steam autopatches your games, and it is really easy to scan your games through for errors, or defrag them withsteam.

I really hope to see D2D lift off internationally, they do give a really nice package when There are games I can acturally buy from there.

But as it is now, STEAM in a combo with GoG. (and the fact thatgames bought through steam is usually about 20 bucks cheaper then when I go out to buy them in stores :s
