Hi,

I have just purchased S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl of Steam, and it's been an hour since the "Preparing STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl files for install..." wizard has started loading, but it's stuck on the last "loading rectangle" for 55 minutes.

Is it really stuck, or it just needs more time?

I had some of these little problems in the past...
  • Restart steam
  • Right click and 'resume download' or stop and resume it again.
I never had any other problems past that...hopefully that will help.

I've noticed lately Steam has issues downloading some games. I couldn't even get STALKER to start downloading today until I right clicked on it and used the "Launch Game" option, it started downloading properly once I did that. I had the same issue with Fallout 3 and GTA IV. Now that it is downloading though I'm getting my normal 700+ K/s.

I can't resume or stop download, because it didn't even start downloading!

It's just preparing the files for install now..

It's the second time I'm trying to install it, with no luck.

I will just restart my computer, maybe that will work.

^^ That is exactly the issue I have. Like I said when it says Starting Download just right click on the game name and hit Launch Game. A box will come up saying Updating STALKER and the game will download.

I think you misunderstood me.

It's not that it's stuck at 0% downloading. It's stuck at "Preparing *** files for install...", like in this screenshot:

I let it run all the night, and now I see that it's already at 80% downloading. :)

just restart steam, that usually solves those sorts of problems.

I actually got stalker on steam today... took about 45 minutes to fully download.

Steam has always been fast for me, might be your connection? Could be a temporary issue with your client or Steam. Could be your firewall? Lots of things at play. What is your connection type and speed?

I'm connected with ADSL, and my internet connection speed is 1.5MB.

My maximum download rate is 184kb\s, but currently, Steam is downloading STALKER at 8-14kb\s!

Is there anything I could do to make it run faster?

I don't have a firewall installed, and the Windows Firewall is off.

One thing I do is the option to test the integrity of the local game cache. That usually fixes things.

The download is stuck at 87% for a few hours now.

I tried restarting my PC, restarting Steam, pause and resuming the download process, checking for files integrity, but it's still stuck.

Can I choose what Steam server to connect to?

There is a new Israeli server that was started a few days ago, and it's the first ever Israeli server, and I guess it's not stable enough, yet.

Being patient can work wonders. I've downloaded games off Steam in a couple hours at some points while taking well over 6 hours other days, and I live in Canada. When you are downloading a 4-5GB game, it tends to take a while.

Steam blows. It's one of the most bloated and buggy applications out there.

I am patient.

When the download was 87% done, it ws after it was downloading for almost 24 hours.

Anyways, I deleted the ClientRegistry.blob file, that is in the Steam folder, and now it is downloading at 75kb\s, which is pretty good,

and it should be done when I get back home from school.
