I feel like an idiot asking this question: When you buy a motherboard, does it come with a processor or do you have to purchase one seperately?

thanks!

You have to get the CPU and Ram separately.

I sure will.

Another question: Can you put any motherboard in your PC(as long as it fits) or do you need a certain amount of power from your PSU?

Any mainstream motherboard will go in your PC, the componants that connect to the motherboard (graphics card, processor, ram, hard drives etc.) are what draws the power, so yes, you need a certain level of PSU to run componants depending on their power draw. PSU is a very important part of a PC.

Instead of telling him to ask questions, why not give a link to a guide?

I predict that taxes will go up in the usa.

The guide comes later. Questions first.

A guide might only overwhealm him, especailly if he just found out tonight that a processor doesn't come with a mother board o_O. Baby steps first.

Well I suppose it could be done, but it would be a major pain in the ass removing drivers and installing new ones and the mystery incompatabilities that might arise later. The general rule of thumb is to reformat with a new mobo install. So many factors depend upon whether or not it is even possible for you to keep your current install.

Either get the exact same motherboard that you have now or prepare for a reformat.

Its probably time for reformat anyways. You may find that after the reformat your computer is more responsive and less buggy.
