So I put my 9800 gx2 up for sale and I got an offer. Someone for some reason whats to trade their 4870 X2 for my 9800 gx2. They claim to be part of some benchmarking team and something or other so they "might as well get a lesser card". They said they couldn't/weren't allowed to compete with it or something.

So I was wondering, should I do it? The reason I want to get rid of the gx2 is Microstuttering. He says that was a problem when the x2 first came out but now that the drivers have matuare a bit it runs perfectly.

He is the only one offering, I put it up for $280 (canadian). I saw there were a few other ads for the gx2 at $300 and $320.

I was hoping to buy a GTX 285..

the 4870 X2 is better than the 9800 GX2... and according to this set of benchmarks i found, it's also better than the GTX 285

so i'd say it's worth it

Yeah, the 4870x2 is quite a lot better.

I dunno, sounds fishy. Just make sure it works right, otherwise good deal.

well, he said I could test it out however I want at his place or something. My biggest problem is microstuttering. I can't take it, it makes me sick. Moving across the campaign map in Empire Total War is awful, everything shaking and fps drops everywhere..

Well then you have nothing to lose if you can test it first. ;) Go for it, see how it runs your game(s) and if it's working properly, it's all good. If it's working good, trade-wise it's a steal. He's the one ripping himself off if anything. lol

IIRC, microstuttering isn't a big issue anymore.

My 9800GT doesn't do this  you'd think that a 9800 GX2 certainly wouldn't :?

I don't know - worst case scenario you end up with a better card. Go for it. If you don't like it, sell it.

The framerate issues in Empire Total War are not because of your card. EVeryone has that problem, even me with my single 8800GTS, even my friend with his single 4850.

PS. I really doubt you will get 300 for your 9800gx2. I sold mine 4 months ago for $280 CAD, and I see people trading it for the GTX 260 and vice versa on trade forums ($220~). So yeah, definately trade it for the 4870x2.

Go for it, at the very worst you'll end up selling the 4870 x2. Just be sure to meet him in a coffee shop first, to make sure he's not gonna rape and murder you or something.

He says if I'm so worried about microstuttering he'll give me a 9800 GTX+ SC plus $50. I really wish someone would just offer me cash. So you sold your gx2 4 months ago for $280? I put my price as $280 and I could go $250..

Thing is, he lives is another town and I'd have to drive there..would be awkward meeting him as well...ugh. I'm 16 so my parents would have to drive me as well..would just be an awkward mess...unless he was like a really cool guy or something.
