Radeon HD 5870

Hey, just bought a Radeon HD 5870 ( you know, 2gb GDDR5, etc ). My current pc sucks, and I have to buy a few things before I put this thing on, but one question, will it allow me to max all current games? ( considering that the rest of my pc is very good, I only needed to upgrade the video card from an on board mother video card to a real video card )

As long as the rest of the machine is reasonably modern (you don't specify what you have), it should do well. It's a good card, so there's not reason why it shouldn't.

There's one way to find out ;) .

What's the rest of the system like? I'm going to say that if you have at least 4 GB of RAM and a decent quad core processor, then yes, you can max everything at a high resolution.

Mine maxes out everything except for the Crysis games. I have to run Crysis Warhead at 720p to get smooth performance with most sliders turned up to high ( not ultra ). But everyting else, SC2, Just Cause 2, Dirt 2, Battlefield BC2 , etc, runs very smooth with maxed out graphic options and AA at 1080p.

Strange. My 5870 runs Crysis and Warhead at 1080p with 2xAA and all max detail settings at almost 35fps.

Would it be better to get a 5870 or two 460s? I've been doing some research and it seems like the two 460s will perform a little better for only a few dollars more.

If you have an SLI-capable motherboard, a PSU with at least 4 pci-e hookups, and don't mind spending an extra $50ish, yeah.. 2 GTX 460 1gbs is better.

Using a 5870 for anything below 1680x1050 is like bringing a howitzer to a knife fight.

Get a 1080p monitor and be blown, hintie hint hint.

get a 1080p monitor. if its too expensive, u can also go for a single 5850 or 460

You would able almost max all game with 5870, but you can't max Metro 2033. Metro 2033 scream for 2 GB video card not 1 GB.

EDIT: Never mind, you have 2GB 5870, so you should max Metro 2033.

Hate to burst your bubble but those tasks are CPU dependent, NOT GPU. The only thing a monster GPU is good for other than gaming is Folding@home.

The money from the rocket launcher could have also actually helped him get a real CPU that would've ACTUALLY helped his cause.

I still dont get what your trying to say, its not like a 5870 is going to waste at a res lower than 1900, if that was the case the GPU market wouldnt be what it is now. A 5870 at my res for example (1600 x 1000) would still out peform my 4870's, you seem to be saying that there is a limit where a card peaks at a certain res and then stops or something which I just dont get.V4LENT1NE

1440x900 : Corner food shop.

1680x1050 : Current / past high school.

1920x1080 : 15 hour car ride to your relative's house.

2560x1600 : Round world trip.

The 5870 is a plane.
