Do I need a motherboard that has a HDMI port and a HD monitor that has a HDMI port in order to watch HD stuff from my computer like Blu-Ray movies? Or would DVI ports on the motherboard and monitor suffice?

And if I want to connect my Xbox 360 to the monitor for HD gaming, would the S-video ports on the monitor provide that?

Thanks

1. DVI provides HD, dual link provides cinema res 4k 2. No you'll need HDMI or a HDMI to DVI converter + external speakers + DAC

Dvi is an alternative to HDMI. DVI is used mostly in pc world as opposed to hdmi where is used mostly in consumer electronics. The majot difference is that DVI doesnt carry audio data unlike HDMI
