Power supply enough for upgrade?

Hey guys, Thinking of upgrading from a GTX 260 to a GTX 470. EVGA has them on sale for $189.99. My question is how do I know if my power supply is enough for this card?Its aDELL. Has a i7, 12GB ram, GTX 260 but does not say anything about a power supply. Thanks in advance.

Minimum for a GTX 260 500 watt power supply. For a 470 550 watt power supply. Although, we can't get an accurate reading unless we have some info on your power supply.

If it can run a GTX 260 then it can most probably run GTX 470 but you cant be quite sure how much headroom did that pre-built's PSU had.

As much as id like to say, get the GTX470, your better off looking at a GTX560, its more power efficient and is faster.

Meh their isnt a noticible performance difference between GTX 470 and 560.

GTX 560 has the edge in temps and power consumption.

Btw GTX 560 is going for $230 now at newegg so the price difference is $40 not $100.

Alright, whats the catch? This GTX 560 I found is $220 PLUS a $30 rebate which makes it the same price as the 470 I was looking at. On top of that the shipping is $20 cheaper. I'll sell you my GTX470 if you will give me that.

I would also consider the 6950, its stronger than the 560 ti and its around the same price. Plus its more power efficient than your old card so most likely it will run fine.

You can run 560 for sure now as it doesnt consume more power than GTX 260.

Use 500 psu... I think it is better and run your card...
