Wondering if any people with some experience in the work field would have any advice for a beginner like myself.

Not sure if this is were I should post this, but I figured it'd be where I will get the most pointers and a few tips, so I will take the chance.

IT is not really a field that you just walk in to with no experience or no education.... atleast not professional IT.

best advice i can give you is to acquire your A+ and Security+ certifications prior to seeking a position. if you cannot hack it on those exams, you will never get a position. A+ is a joke and trivial as the information is pretty much useless in the field.... but Security+ is no joke and contains a lot of fundamental concepts.
