Hi everyone.

I'm looking to build a new rig etc etc, I'm looking at either the 5870 2GB or the 6950 2GB. I've read however that the 6950 1GB is identical to the 2GB version, wondering if that's the case with the 5870.

And, which one is better? (I'd like the 2GB in memory, but I'm not into Eyefinity and whatnot, but since the 5870 1GB is more expensive than the 2GB version I don't really know)

Thanks in advance.

Also, not my first "high-end" gaming computer, but it is my first custom built PC so I'm sorry if any less intelligent questions are read here.

EDIT: I have a 4870x2 right now, but it's a mess, hence why I'm building a new rig, in this ranking

http://www.gamespot.com/forums/topic/26899312/graphics-card---latest-ranking-about-the-overall-performance-of-graphics-cards?page=42&tag=topics;lastpage

it is rated above the 5870 2GB, so the 5870 2GB would be a step down?. Another thing I forgot to mention (sorry for that) is that I'd prefer the one of those two cards (5870 or 6950) that doesn't have 2 cores, because I don't want this 4870x2 tale to tell itself again.

it is just.. avoid powercolor there working out a few bugs on their pcs++ card which when fixed will be uber 1337!

tbh id sooner get an hd 6950 2gb n flash it.. this being said a 5870 is still a powerful card and in fact is BETTER than a 4870x2 never mind a gtx 295!!

wheres that 295 at.. oh right underneath the 5870's boots!

You have 4870x2 and looking at a 5870, thats a downgrade, sure it supports dx11, but I'll still take the 4870x2. The only worthwhile upgrades you want are the 5970 or 6990 and then the 6970. The last one is also a slight downgrade.

Well, between the 5870 or the 6970, any of those doesn't have 2 cores? (I'm only upgrading because my 4870x2 is full of issues right now)

my benchies say otherwise.. even at launch the 5870 could hand the 4870x2 its face in a silver tray

Really? a dual GPU vs a single solution, unless the drivers were bad.

I would go 6970 TC.

in fact its quite case specific as to when the 4870x2 beats it.. to my knowledge the list consists of HAWX1 & 2, sup commander, and AVP
