pc refresh stuck rate stuck at 60 hz

i bought a 58 inch toshiba 120 hz tv with 240 hz clear scan at black friday when connected via my laptop, tower and and the refresh rate dont go higher than 60 hz this really upset me because i bought it at black friday for playing my games in 120 hz.

Are you using HDMI? If so, then that's the problem.

Think you need dual link DVI for above 60Hz

okay now,im not happy at all i paid 1000$ for a tv that doesnt do 120 hz without dvi.

120hz / 1080p can only be done on DVI-D and display port. HDMI can only do 120hz / 720p, or 60hz / 1080p. So it's not a problem with the TV itself really.

Also, do TVs actually support real 120hz at all? I though they all take a 60hz signal and interpolate it into 120.

I think some do actually.

@horgen123: i contacted customer support he said the tv support 120 hz with hdmi on pc if that doesnt work i can add clearscan to it so the problem is pretty much solved.

So let me explain this. HDMI physically cannot carry 120 hz at 1080p. You HAVE to use dual link dvi or display port to get that refresh rate at 1080p resolution. It will support 120hz at 720p (which has already been stated).

HDMI version 2.0 can I think, but that was released Septempber this year, so probably not a lot of products with it yet.

Clearscan either shows the same image twice, or has a black frame between each frame sent from the computer.

No it has to be DUAL LINK DVI. DVI-D will not work.

yeah sorry, I did mean dual, just kinda confused it with DVI-D.

I thought the 120hz for TV was the backlight and not the refresh rate.

I fell for it with my Sharp 52" LCD all it dose it make movies that was filmed 24fps look stupid buy fakeing the next frame so it looks like a talk show that was filmed at 60fps plus makes games unplayable. I never use the 120hz mode and wish i saved the money and got the one without all that crap.
