Whenever I try to leave the area in the very beginning of the game where I have to go into the sewer, the game stops and a message pops-up and says "Oblivion has stopped working and needs to close". This also happens sometimes when I pause the game to change the options. I mean the game runs fine until that certain part where I have to open the sewer door.

I can post my system specs if anyone needs them.

Thanks

Have you patched the game? And yes, it could be helpful if you posted your specs.

Does Oblivion support that GPU?RK-Mara

I'm not 100% sure if it does, but I did get through the "tutorial" level without any video or performance problems. No lag or anything it ran very smoothly the entire time until I hit the part with the sewer. What happens is that when I click the door to go down it loads and then it goes to a black screen then crashes to desktop with that error message.

Pretty sure your GPU is way below playable specs. Is that a laptop you're running on, BTW? It sounds like it is.

You could try Oldblivion to see if it can get the thing running, but it won't look nice.

i wondered whether it was a laptop too but i doubt it seeing as he is upgrading to 2GB ram. I know you can upgrade laptops but most people dont bother.

I probably would reccomend an upgrade in the near future before you lack behind too much for todays games coming out.

Ok, I will probably just have to upgrade. After viewing the specs, my GPU is not good enough and yes I am using a laptop.

Now since I have intergrated graphics, can I still upgrade it? I have a card slot (PCI or something like that), so can I get a graphics card to put in there?

Thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate it.

Ok I just went to Oldblivion and I went to the FAQS:

http://www.oldblivion.com/?page=faq#q1

Number 13 says:

13: My game crashes when entering the sewers. Some people also report success after switching bUseRefractionShader, bDoImageSpaceEffects, bUseWaterShader and bUseFaceGenLOD to 0, as well as bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen to 1 in the Oblivion.INI. Others, yet, seem to have solved this problem by downloading the latest Omega Drivers for their card. They are available here http://www.omegadrivers.net/.Should I try that? It sounds like the problem I have.

Try the drivers first. If that fails, change the .INI settings.

Also worth noting is that those .INI settings will improve performance at the cost of the graphical quality of the game.

Are you using Xfire while playing Oblivion? If you are, try turning off Xfire when you are playing Oblivion.
