From videocardz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN Black Edition

Let me start by saying this is probably the same card I’ve been writing about few weeks ago — GTX 780 Ti Black Edition. All we know for sure is that it’s a TITAN replacement and it would supposedly come with a black cooler.

The new TITAN would sport the same GPU as GTX 780 Ti, only TITAN BLACK would have higher double precision computing performance, thus more FP64 CUDA cores. The GTX TITAN Black Edition is also said to feature 6GB memory buffer. This is twice as much as GTX 780 Ti, and it pretty much confirms we won’t be seeing any 6GB Ti’s.

The rest is pretty much well known, TITAN BLACK has 2880 CUDA cores, 240 TMUs and 48 ROPs.

TITAN Black will most likely cost $999. NVIDIA will release it soon, the exact date is yet to be confirmed, but it’s most likely dictated by the 1st Gen TITAN stocks.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 790

The new TITAN will not replace GTX 780 Ti in terms of performance. TITAN series are basically a bridge between Quadro and GeForce models. Most gamers would still stick to the 780 Ti, because of the better price and similar performance.

That said, NVIDIA can’t do anything more than launch a first dual-GPU model from 700 series.

I already posted the possible specs of GTX 790. I could not verify those numbers, so please treat them with a grain of salt. Some sites took it too serious and posted them as ‘leaked’, as if it was a solid information.

GeForce GTX 790 won’t feature full GK110 cores. Instead we are expecting two 2496 CUDA-packed processors giving 4992 in total. What is also interesting is that GTX 790 will not have dual 384-bit interface, but 320 . This will also mean it won’t have 2x 6GB memory, but 2x 5GB configuration instead, that’s 10GB in total.

For those wondering why on earth would it not have full configuration, the answer is simple — power consumption. NVIDIA is aiming at 300W TDP, which is only possible with a cut-down components and lower clocks.

The GeForce GTX 790 is expected to launch shortly after GTX TITAN Black, most likely in February, maybe even in March.

Milking kepler much?

And by Black edition means what in difference between it and the original Titan?

All Cuda cores unlocked, just like 780 Ti, 6GB VRAM I guess and higher clocks on core and memory?

Me neither, but they do what they do when AMD hasn't really provided the challenge nVidia thought they would I guess.

I can't really get excited for another 28nm GPU (its been like two years).

Maxwell should be out in the next 6-7 month + 28nm is almost two years old so I can't really get excited for any new cards

So you're basically buying it for better benchmarks?

There's people out there willing to buy 1000$ cards. So I guess they'll just keep releasing those.

I agree! 2 of them for SLI plus waterblocks. And another 480mm rad for the extra heat added to the loop and another 8 fans. GTX 680 as PhysX card... RIGHT?

That's really poor I think... It should have 384 like a regular 780.

Titan Black Edition = GTX 780 Ti 6GB

  • GTX 680
  • HD 7970
  • GTX 580
  • HD 6970

All these flagships have come with two VRAM amounts and not 1 has cost more than $100 in difference and even then they never offer much of a performance difference if any at all in the majority of games.

Safe to say that who ever buys a GTX Titan BE is wasting $200-300.

The GTX 790 on the other hand is interesting but at the same time its not a single GPU so meh.

We should just all hold on a bit for another year for 20nm GPU's. Price/performance here is ridiculous.

Pretty much true if the rumours in OP is turns out to be true as well.

20nm... Maybe this summer? When is it supposed to be used for GPUs?

Actually, you'd be buying it as a cheap compute card. The Titan doesn't have butchered double precision performance like 780 Ti. Also, I think more of the other compute extensions are enabled. Not as many as Tesla, but a good compromise.

It's a good GPU if you're into gaming + editing.
