I've had my Mac for almost a year now, and I've looked into what games are available and was never really sure what was worth getting. Right now I have Fable: The Lost Chapters and am enjoying that pretty well...

Until I get Bootcamp running on here and can get all sorts of games (although I will obviously be limited to what I can run), I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to decent games that can be run on a Mac?

I'm new to this whole thingum D:

Do you have Steam for Mac? If you do, you can get a whole bunch of games there, I think they ported over all the Half-Life games, for example.

First of all.... gaming on a MAC? Until a few weeks ago, FAIL.

Fortunately for you, steam is now out for mac.

STEP 1. GET STEAM.

Then try the Orange box. It has the best first person shooter ever, plus portal, plus team fortress 2. That'll hold you for months.

Heaps of games? Where were they? Other than Blizzard games and a couple of terrible ports that were unplayable, there weren't ANY games on Macs.

Can't even be bothered listing them, so look them up. If for example you go to the Mac shop in Sydney they have a big wall full of them...

I'm not a MAC Fan, but for uniformed people who think MAC has only a couple of games, here is the list.... + add STEAM to that now:

HUGE LIST

MORE RECENT GAMES

It's no surprise to me that macs have that many games. What would be a surprise is if many of those games where actually decent. Hell, Macs only got to HL2 a few weeks ago - PC users have had it for the last five years.

And who would pay so much more money for an OS that isn't really superior? I know most Mac users here (probably not many) will have quite a few excuses against that statement, but it's true - if you know what you're doing OSX has nothing over Windows. I'm not calling OSX bad - I'm just saying that it's not better than Windows, especially for gaming. (Although Steam has evened things out a little there.)

Anyway, back to the OP - you'd be mad not to buy the Orange Box. Half-Life 2 is the best singleplayer game I've played and TF2 is one of my favorite online games ever. And let's not forget the wealth of mods for the Source engine (Zombie Master FTW!)

No my friend, those games are on Mac. Don't get me wrong guys, I will ALWAYS suggest a PC for gaming on top of a Mac any day... but lots of people think Mac have only had a couple of games in the past it that wasn't true. I have seen big Mac shops with huge wall of games...

What? Every once in a while I read some foolishness like this in the forums, I normally don't say anything, but this time this was too much. Any major computer brand have plenty of games to choose from. Mac is no exception.

Old beasts like the Amiga, the Commodore 64, the Amstrad and the Zx Spectrum have been gaming since at least the 80's. Apple was with them. I am sure that any one of them has more games released than any console in the market: no matter if it is the NES, SNES, Jaguar, Genesis, XBOX, XBOX 360, PlayStation 1,2 or 3 or anything. I can even assure that the Amiga, the Commodore 64 and the Mac have at least twice as much games then any console.

And about the quality of the games, well, anyone that knows a bit of computer history, knows that the Amiga and the MSX were considered gaming rigs at a time the IBM format was still seen as a business machine.
