Up to know I think this is my final:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.00GHz

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Gcard: Asus GeForce 8800 Ultra HTDP 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Ram: Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) X2

HDD: Western Digital RAID Edition 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache X2

Total: £868.18

Do you have any comments? Anything you think I should change?

Thanks.

Haha! dont get a PS3 lad, you know for a fact pc is better game play and a lot more enjoyable with the mouse and keyboard. The games are over prised and you know it!

I think instead of an 8800 Ultra, maybe get 2 8800GTs in SLI, or 4 HD3850s in crossfire X.

what PSU are you getting?

I'd go with a Q6600 and a GTS revision that's coming out, should be the same or better than an ultra for a lot less.

I say get a Q6600 and OC or a better quad core, skip the Ultra and get two 8800 GTs and a 10k RPM hard drive to load your OS and games on along with that hard drive. You also need a PSU. OCZ and Corsair seem to be good brands.

I think i would opt for the quad, a GT and a nice PSU. ^ Yah a Raptor instead of RAID as well.

Thanks for your input, I am finding it hard what to choose Dual or Quad a hand full of people on other fourms say get Dual and a hand full here and else were say get Quad. I have been shown benchmarks and the Dual looked better. For Quad overclocking keeps getting said I dont want to overclock for the simple reason incase it messes up and dont like the fact that you have to to get equal amount spec. Crossfire also keeps proping up what are the benefits?

Thank you again for your input.

most crossfire motherboards, unless you get one with something like an Asus crosslinx chip, will only deliver 4X lanes on the second PCIE slot. obviously, this means that the card will never get anywhere near close to its top performance. the next intel chipset i *think* will support full 16X lanes on the second PCIE slot under crossfire.

its most often always a better choice to buy one high end card over two lower spec cards.

The difference in benchmarks between dual and quad core cpus is usually from the difference in core speeds between the two. For the same price, you can usually get a higher speed dual core compared to a quad core. Since most applications are not multithreaded (yet), a faster dual core will typically perform better in games. Is this computer going to be used solely for games? If so, the dual core CPU that you have picked out will be fine. If it were me, I'd get the quad core since I do a lot of video converting and matlab processing. The extra cores would take the workload and keep my computer usable when I would be converting (as compared to now, when i start the converting at night and go to sleep, LOL)

The 8800 Ultra is a great card...for a price. What resolution are you gaming in? If your answer isnt anything higher than 1680x1050, I'd recommend saving some money and going with the 8800GT 512 MB. Less than half the price for only a few less FPS. The 8800 ultra still holds the crown by far when you increase resolution because it has a lot more memory bandwidth, but if you are using a 1280x1024, it really isnt needed. Your call though. Looks like a good build.

Oh, and crossfire, that is basically the ATI/AMD equivalent to nVidia SLi. Putting in multiple GPUs to work together to achieve higher performance that one card (typically) can reach alone. [Shameless plug] There is a nice write-up on multiple gpu setups in the Overclocking Union Forum [/shameless plug.]

For a PSU, you could get a PCP&C Silencer 610 or Corsair HX620W. Either one should feed your system nicely. ...Oh, wait, your price isn't in US$, thus you'll have to find another e-tailer(Newegg won't ship outside of the States). At the very least, though, you know what the products in question look like. Also, what revision is the GA-P35-DS3P? I have Revision 2.0, with the eight USB ports in the back-quite convenient. Beware of the driver DVD, though-it's probably infected with a virus!

Thank you very much for your reply, I was in the need of a good PSU and will look into picking one of those. I have been advised to wait until January 20th 2008 when Intel release their new CPU.

Thanks again.

A quad will take your performance a lot more; it will help you score much better benchmarks. Quad is the future - go with that. Dual-core was so last year. :)

A good PSU, a nice CPU, and a good GPU (i.e, go for a GTS or a GT) Very nice build, though.

Have fun building it. Happy building!
