So I disabled DHCP on my Netgear WGR614 v9 through the address bar typing 192.168.1.1 to get to the settings. I am trying to run from modem to router that is downstairs to another router that is upstairs. I was told to Disable DHCP on the 2nd router so it didn't conflict. I did that and now it doesn't work at all.

So I tried to reset it with the button on the back so I could go back to the online settings and now it won't let me access the router. Any help?

Which router can't you connect to, the 2nd one right? And yes you should disable dhcp, you don't want to be subnetting a subnet. (Disable dhcp on the 2nd one)

Yeah I can't connect to the 2nd one. I did disable DHCP and the internet light on the 2nd router goes green but I can't connect to the internet even without and ipconfig /release /renew.

When I go to /renew it won't do it.

My current problem now is I can't access the settings on my 2nd router now. So that I can revert the settings back to factory. The button on the back doesn't reset it back to factory.

Yes if I use the cable that I routed to upstairs to connect to the second router and unplug it from the second router I can plug it into the computer and get a connection.

Hold it for 30 seconds usually does the trick.

Won't do it keeps setting up up with an odd "Auto IP Address" something like 169.185.240.0 or sometihng along those lines.

Ok got it to reset.

So from my router down stairs I have the Eternet Cable that is on I think port 4 down stairs running up stairs. Do I plug it into the "Internet" part on the back on the 2nd router or just any random port on the back on the 2nd router?. Then plug in all the other computers I want? And Disable JUST DHCP on the 2nd router and it should work? I want to make sure I am doing it correctly.

I was also reading that people were talking about making the first router do something like 192.168.1.1-100 and the second router do 192.168.1.101-200. I'm not sure I need to do this ?

You don't need to do that, but it would certainly work. They are just creating two different subnets. Here is how it works modem > (wan port)first router(any lan port) > (wan port)second router (any lan port) > computers. Yes just disable dhcp on the second one, the reason being is because you don't want the second one assigning ip addresses, the first one will already do that.

No, Modem > internet port on the first router(that is correct), then lan port 1(or any, it doesn't matter)from the first router, to the internet port on the 2nd router.

Okay so I got it to work. I did what I thought you said to do in the first place. I went from Modem > to Internet port on first router then LAN 1 port on first router to LAN 1 port on the 2nd router. With nothing plugged into the "Internet" port on the back of the 2nd router. Now it works.
