Hey everyone, I need a new video card, I am giving mine (3870) to a friend.

I play games on a 42" 1080p tv, so I need something that is good for high resolutions. My budget is about $300.00.

I am thinking that I will either get a gtx260, 4870 or 4890.

Thanks for any help.

I would probably go with this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150330

at that res. these cards kind of are at their limit. The 4890 is supposed to be the most powerful. The card I linked has a great rebate and comes with far cry 2 now I know its not the greatest game but its free. I like XFX I have the XFX4870XXX1GIG and its been flawless and overclocks fantastic. Plus LIFETIME WARRENTY. Then later on you can SLI. But I think the 4890 XFX overclocked would also be a good choice. Its in your price range. At newegg.com.

forgot to mention with my 4870 xxx there was a BIOS update I had to do and some people had problems with it. But mine went smooth and its worked great ever since. Right now the 4870 and 4890 are too close in price to select the 4870.

You should defently get the GTX 275 http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-275-review-test/10 almost as good as the GTX285 but for only 240$.Beats both the GTX 260 and HD4890 by quite a margin.

Oh ya, I forgot to mention, I am Canadian. Use Newegg.ca from now on, as it seems to be the best Canadian site.

Tagerh

I just ordered a laptop from Newegg.ca, $10 shipping...

If you want to post a link to Directcanada or Ncix feel free, it doesn't really make a difference to me, but I am most likely going to end up buying it from Newegg since they will most likely be cheaper. If Directcanada or NCIX are cheaper for that specific item, I will most certainly purchase it from one of those sites.

What do you guys have against Newegg.ca? It is like they killed your dog or something... :P

I don't think the GTX 260 would be enough for me.

I have it down to the GTX 275 or HD 4890.

I can find the 4890 for $269.00 - $320.00 CAD (Cheapest one is a Powercolor) and I can only pre-order a GTX 275 for $299.99 - $330.00 (Cheapest is PNY). Is this 4890 any good? Would the GTX 275 be worth the extra money? keep in mind, I plan to play games at 1080p with some AA.

Thanks for the help.

If your going to be using AA, benchmarks have shown that the 275 performs better especially with the AA.

Either the GTX275 or the 4890. Both are excellent choices for around 250 and 1080p gaming or for 30-40 more you canget you can get this gtx280 for 290

If your budget is 300$ CAD then you can't afford a 4890 or a 275, the 4890 is like 320$ at newegg.ca

You should be able to find a 1GB 4870 for $250 plus taxes so just under $300 after taxes.

I can get one for $269.99 atNCIX

The $300 limit isn't very strict, I just want people to know that Cards like the 4870x2 or the GTX 295 are not options.

I could wait a month or two, I guess.

Any new video cards expected to come out soon that is worth waiting for?

between the 4890 and the 275, get whatever is cheaper. I have the 4890 it runs cooler and quieter than the 4870 reference.

if you look real close on newegg, not only do you get a $20 rebate on the 4890, but some of them even offer a game with them. but like i said you gotta look close tho, they don't list the game anywhere, you have to look at the pictures to see whats included. altho you have to weigh the brand quality into the equation too.
