So I'm building a new computer and would like to discuss my new build. Not including the extra stuff (fans, monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc.), I have everything set up except for my power supply. I was actually hoping I could get some advice on that. If there's anything that I screwed up or if you know of a better hardware replacement, feel free to make suggestions. I'm not the most experienced computer builder myself, so I'm sure I screwed up somewhere along the line.

Not bad. Real solid build, I have the same motherboard. I wouldnt spend that much money on a case though.

@04dcarraher: I really don't know a whole lot about PSUs, but I was hoping I could find something in the 800-850W range. As for the case, I am open to some cheaper suggestions if you know of any good ones. I want something spacious and generally something that has a bit more pizzazz than the one I currently have now.

Unless you plan on using multiple gpu's you dont need a 800w+ psu. a good quality 650w would more then enough, and a good mid tower will have good amount of room and cooling like the 500r

Yeah grab 2x4gb(8gb) of memory 4gb is minimum for gaming. Then for the PSU this will do the job LINK

Kinda overkill on the PSU don't you think? a 750 one will handle 2 GPU's fine.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, folks. I like the power supply. That looks like a real winner right there. I also want to clarify that I will be getting 8GB of memory for my new setup (I already have 8GB memory in my current setup). Sorry about the confusion.

I'm now looking at some new cases. Here are some that I'm also liking:

http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_112&item_id=027049

http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_112&item_id=033493

http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_112&item_id=033494

I'm really liking the NXZT cases. They already come with 3 120mm fans equipped inside, which is pretty convenient for me since I won't have to go out of my way to buy extra fans (save for maybe 1 for personal preference). I can also save quite a bit of money. They look good for the price.

TC plans on getting two 280x's which do consume upto 250w or more each that alone will eat 500w+ then once you add cpu and other items you will approach 650w and that isnt including plans in overclocking. its best not to tax the psu and is nice to have some breathing room for longevity .As psu's age their capacitors dont hold charge as once did and that leads to the psu not pumping out the wattage and current as it did when new. After like 5 years the psu will be able to handle that type of load while a 750w would struggle at full usage.

TC, Since you are planing on Crossfiring you should look into cases that have the room and cooling for the amount of hardware your putting in. While you dont need a full tower, you will need mid tower cases that can handle the job. Here are a few cases to consider. Corsair 400r/500r, Cooler Master HAF 922, But with that 280x you picked with that windforce x3 cooler your better off going with a full tower. HAF 932 HAF X or NZXT Phantom 530 etc.

Take the discussion up with my Antec 650w, its as old as the 8800GTS and it was powering 2 cards (470 and 8800) up until March of this yr when the 470 died. Its still being used right now for this rig.

Make it 8Gb of RAM and the GPU you can get the R9 280 instead of the X version.

EDIT: also there's no point in getting a full tower case, go with mid sized one if you can get it cheaper.

Although I recently changed to a full sized case and I love it.

Lots of room for airflow and because of the room it's really easy to work in if your not to confident.

Only drawbacks are there generally more expensive and they can be big and heavy

You are no where near the loads as would 280x's use. 8800GTS use less then 150w 320mb and even less the 512mb version, Then you have the 470 and 8800 as phsyx or 2nd monitor would have been idle most of the time and even with the games that use physx your usage would be less... the total would be around the same as two 8800's at 100%. Your only taxing the psu about 70% at peak vs the TC system of near 90% with 750w. Your 650w is still able to do the job because you were not taxing it, but you should keep an eye out since your psu has lost some of its max output.

Out of all the cases you picked and since your going with Crossfire later I would go with your first choice The Thermaltake Core V71

Then you'll want to get a Crossfire/SLI MOBO, because the one you've chosed isn't going to do.

Also do not get Thermaltake V3 it's a horrible case with no room for cable management, I recommend on the Corsair 200R, is saw that the same shop owns it.

If you decide to pick NZXT case it's the 210 I recommend, 410 as well but you'll want to replace the front intake to 2x 140mm

lol I didnt realize to look back at his mobo in his list, after he said Crossfiring later on. But on a side note 200r with two gpu's with windforce x3 coolers will be cramped as well with the Nzxt 210

Not really, the NZXT 210 is similar to the 200R but most of the time cheaper, it got front 2x 120mm, top 2x 140/120mm and of course the rear and also a bottom one if IDK you wish an intake from there as well.

I think any 2 GPU setup should have similar case ventilation.

I'm probably going to go with the big case I originally intended then. I'll be spending more money, but at least I won't have to worry about space and ventilation issues. If you guys know of any bigger towers that you like, I'm open to suggestions for that as well.

Also, I thought the motherboard I picked out could do Crossfire.

It can but its only at x4 if you have 2 GPU's, look for another mobo which has x8 for Crossfire, it provides more bandwidth.

I would get 8GB Ram instead of 4. Also, a good quality 520W PSU is doing the job.

For crossfire, 650W might be enough.

You need 2X4GB of ram & I would use a 990FX mobo with 8350. Although that mobo is quiet good for the price that it is, I've played around with it. Also most Corsair, EVGA, Seasonic or Antec PSUs are good.

Gigabyte board's are good Ive used them before, even my GTX 760 is from them
