Hey I'm just wondering what the lowest price cut off for a GPU that would play every game out there at high-ultra at 1080p. I'm considering getting a card like that depending on the price because my gtx 460 is a little underwhelming. Thanks guys!

My 6950 does everything high-ultra at 1920x1080.
However the 460 is an alright card, I wouldn't upgrade until nvidia is done rolling out their new cards and ask again then. If anything, if your motherboard supports SLI I would get a 2nd 460
Get another 460. Your motherboard probably doesn't support it though.
My 560 Ti won't even all games on Ultra at 1080p (Metro). I don't know what single-card solution will.
Gammit10
My 570 is quite capable of playing Metro on Ultra at 2048x1152 in DX11. Hovers around 20-30FPS, depending on location of course. DX9 Ultra shouldn't be hard on any modern card.

You can't really say your card is capable of something, if it's only getting 20-30 fps. What games have given your 460 problems? Have you tried OCing it? edit: just saw it's a 768mb version. Well you can get a 2nd one although in my experience (460 1gb sli) it wasn't really worth it over the single card, not to mention god awful temps.achilles614Did you get a gpu cooler or better case with airflow?
Because while my 1st 460 can hit 80 degrees, my 2nd 460 never goes beyond 60 degrees, and my airflow is far from the best. I want to get a better case though.

HAF 922 with a modular psu with pretty good airflow. And 80 is what the top card hit which was way too high for my baby :([QUOTE="achilles614"] Did you get a gpu cooler or better case with airflow?

With one card I'm able to stay under 65*c with the core at 950mhz.
It stays very cool when overclocked so there hasn't been a need for an aftermarket cooler. It was when I put it in SLI that it got so hot (which honestly isn't shocking, just not something I wanted to deal with for the small performance) even after down-clocking the core to 700mhz which is what I did when running two of them it still kept the top card at 80* c.^Wait...you overclocked it? No wonder it gets so hot. And why not get a gpu cooler, you'll drop between 10-20 degrees with it.

Um, not for some games. Other than metro2033 (which really isn't worth buying an expensive gpu for since it;s not a great game), it should. What other games were you thinking of?[QUOTE="kraken2109"]
It's not worth upgrading a GTX 460. It should be playing everything on high at 1080p anyway.

Except it is quite capable. Other factors such as CPU hold it back from better performance.

Metro is stupidly optimised i saw my fps dropping to 14 multiple times when looking at bright light... 1.5k rig getting 14fps... Most of the times fps is in the mid 40's though.[QUOTE="mitu123"]Um, not for some games. GTAIV+expansions, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, The Witcher 2, Shogun 2, if you're talking about getting near 60FPS with them constantly good luck with that, and those games make you go under 30FPS at times, during the huge battles of Shogun 2 it can normally get under 30FPS for example. Should I post a screen, lol.[QUOTE="kraken2109"]

Sadly, it can only do medium on BF3 at 50-60fp/s on 1080p. No AA.i think that hd 5870 can play much games at ultra and at 1080p smoothly(and maybe all of them)

GTAIV runs fine with FXAA (well as fine as it'll get, even people with brilliant rigs have random issues). Don't have the wticher. I remember playing the shogun 2 demo a while back, I don't understand why it uses so much gpu since it didn't look great, but i'd assume CPU plays a big part in that game.[QUOTE="kraken2109"][QUOTE="mitu123"] Um, not for some games.

I'm pretty happy that my 2-3year old card is still doing this well.

Meh, Metro shouldn't be used as a benchmark for anything. I can only run it on max settings at 1680x1050 with 45-60 FPS. If I crank up the resolution, I need to tone down the AA to make it playable.
jcbullen
The reason it is used as such is exactly why you don't think it should be.
I currently have an OCed GTX 460 as well. I can run pretty much everything on high 1080p with no problem. I'm likely selling it though and picking up whatever the midrange Kepler card is, such as the 660Ti if they indeed make one.
I did this intentionally when I built my rig in Summer 2010. I've got an i7 @ 4.0ghz (could get it to 4.4 easily) which I won't have to touch for quite some time and I can just pop a new GPU in there whenever I want.

It doesn't matter how good it actually looks in comparison to other games, if everyone benchmarks with the game it gives you a good indicator of computer power because it's so hard to run smoothly.[QUOTE="jcbullen"][QUOTE="GummiRaccoon"]Crysis with extreme mods looks better and runs better.
