I own an apartment building and I was wonder if I took the business plan from comcast could I use their internet to provide for the whole building? I would be doing my own wiring and I would of course be charging a Fee. I am not sure if this is totally legal since airports and book stores also do it.

You need to look into the terms and conditions of your service contract/agreement with your ISP. I've seen some agreements that explicitly state that you can't do that. There's no law that makes it expressly legal or illegal, it depends on your specific agreement for service.

i'm sure it's not allowed by comcast but if they don't know it, won't hurt. How will you wire the entire building to support internet?

Of course it's allowed, where do you think airports and coffee shops get their connections? Whether it's allowed on your connection is a different matter. I'ld look into getting a proper router and look towards a high bandwidth connection, leased ethernet seems to be the best around here, if your building is large.

If someone could take a look into it for me that would be greatly appreciated I live in IL and I would be signing up for their business plan. The building would be wired by ethernet cords.

Why don't you look into the terms of service for the plan you're going to sign up for? That's the best way to do this.

The problem is I can't seem to find it.It seems the only way of knowing might be to call them.

Look under ethernet services if it's a big building, you can get up to 1gbps there

I don't think I'd need that much since I've only got 32 units.

Just make sure you have a fallback contract in case the amount of people subscribing to your plan change their mind. You might want to trottle the connection with your router too.

Not on a residential service, but a business service most likely. Call them.

I really doubt they'll be keen on it. Why would they willing allow you to underbid what they already sell on their own. Best bet = Keep your mouth shut and include it as a perk in part of the rent. That way, you're not directly re-selling their service. Just an offering to your tenants as a gesture of your largesse to keep them living there. Semantics play a big role in legal matters.

If you make sure you get a decent router that allows you to assign only a certain amount of bandwidth per user...otherwise if one person is torrenting it will **** everyone else off.

Well that will only give you 1.5mbps per unit. That dosn't sound like enough to me and they have multiple clients then it's terrible. 10mbs is the default for cable here, personally i think you should make it so you can atleast stream more than 1 480p video per unit which is exactly 1.5mbps or perhaps download at 256kbs (2mb) and remember you have to allow for throttling and congestion.
