I'm trying to upgrade from the PC my family and I are currently using so I can play PC games. In order to run the games that are coming out now, I need a whole new computer. Also, I am going into high school this year, so I'll need a laptop soon anyways. So I was thinking, should I get a laptop or PC for gaming?

By the way, I'm just looking to run the games on medium or medium-high quality, I'm not a big time gamer (1-2 hours a day), budget is $700-$1300 or so.

Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated! :D

If it's all about gaming then get a PC.

It will definately also be for school work, but alot of gaming also most likely.

Alright... I will be using a laptop in high school for sure though.

I'm looking at the $1000-$1300 price range, any suggestions?

1st of all if you are asking for advice, don't criticize it. and you are not going to need a laptop until college which is 4 years away for you. trust me, you will not need it for high school. teachers probably won't evben allow you to use it. Get a desktop PC.

You pretty much need a pc for gaming at that price range. Laptops are underpowered and over priced.

Sorry for the double post, but if you do decide to get a laptop get this one. Its alittle over your budget but its the best deal you can get atm.

well i've learned that because i do LAN fairly frequently that a laptop is a huge advantage in that aspect. just plug it into a wall and you're set while everyone around you fumbles with cables and cords and you get to dive into the chips first. pc's can be upgraded which is a major advantage, but if you go with one of the gaming laptops around the web for 1300 or less (they do exist) you will have a lot of power and portability. just research mobile cards if you go that route.

Get a desktop for 800 dollars for gaming and a laptop for 500. That would be your best option.

Alright, thanks for the tips everyone.

My new plan is to convince my parents into letting me get a new pc that I can use upstairs.

Hmm...

depends how much you have to spend. a desktop will get you a gaming system much cheaper, but laptops have many advantages

here's a good article about it

to get a laptop to run games new games that is like age of conan, crysis and bioshock u need at least a 8700m for medium with shader 3.0 and that card is usually in 15 inch lappies that run for around 1500 bucks but u can find the odd cheaper one. I suggest a 8800m gt or gts/gtx but that will add at least 600 bucks to the prce tag. Laptops imo are outrageously expensive just because people can't build there one. If u want a dektop u can get one that is prebuilt that will get u high and max in most game from alieanwre dell and so on for 1200 bucks. It will be there lowest dektops they sell but that doesn't mean they are bad. Say the 1000 amd one from alieanware comes with a 3870 default, a amd 6400 x2, 2 gbs of 800mhz ram, intel cross fire mobo, and a what i think a 750 watt power supply. Yeah software is extra. so u will prolly get the alieware amd desktop for 1000 bucks and add microsft office and that for other 300 bucks. Ms office i believe is around 200.
