A) do you use wireless mouse with that laptop or do you mean the touchpad of the laptop?

B) did you try it elsewhere besides that laptop?

Does only the mouse freeze or the entire OS, that is while the mouse is frozen can you press the windows key and get into the start menu? If everything is freezing maybe you could monitor your temps and hdd usage see if they might be the problem

Send it back if you still have a warranty or just get a wireless mouse - it's cheap and more comfortable.

Touchpads on laptops usually come with an applet. You can disable that applet (msconfig) and let the built-in one in Windows handle it at a cost of lesser functionality.
