Hey, I am looking for a laptop mostly for programming and some light gaming... such as FTL

I am leaning towards the XPS 15 9530 (link), as I got a XPS studio 1640 back in early 2009 and it is still working even withstanding my rough usage but quite slow due to outdated specs.

I am also considering the HP Envy 15 (link). It is cheaper and has better specs but the thing I am worried is that I used to have an HP Pavillion dv9t and it used to shutdown immediately due to overheating... Have they fixed the heating issue on the newer models?

Also are there any other models and brands that can be recommended?

The things I am looking for:

must be 4th gen Intel processor (preferably i5 or above)

must be ~15 inches

must have backlit keyboard

highly prefer with numeric keypad

prefer a matte screen

dont need dvd drive

dont need touch screen

dont need discreet video card

A friend has one of these and it's a good machine. Battery life is terrible though.

rly light gaming that its almost irrelevant lol. like FTL, sword of the stars the pit, various roguelikes such as Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (awesome game check it out), ToME (also awesome game of the same type). so basically any 4th gen integrated video card will be totally fine

and if it works like diablo3 on low, starcraft 2 on low, dota 2 on low.. but if it doesnt run these games I dont really care. this is mostly my computer for bringing to the office/ factory or when i travel like once or twice a year.

Most of my gaming will be done on a desktop at home

I really love my surface pro, but I'm sure I'm in the minority here.
