a bit, but my case has 5 fairly cheap fans so I can turn a few off/down, or replace them if it was too loud.

If you want a silent PC, check out this site. it looks like it's got some nice guides and reviews.

Go to silentpcreview and quietpc.com and check reviews and forums to help make your computer quiet.

There is a lot you can do to quiet a system. Replace the stock GPU and CPU heatsink/fans, and put on quieter ones, where you control the fan speed. Zalman makes both. Watercooling works, but it can also open up problems like water pump failures to be fair. It's possible and easier to quiet a system with the right fans and heatsinks without going to watercooling. Some PSU's, and HD's are quieter; read silentpcreview for their detailed sound level anaylsis. Switch to quiet larger 120mm case fans that are ajustable, etc.

If you open your case and listen you should be able to find the noisy components (usually the PSU, CPU fan, GPU fan, and sometimes smaller case fans), and attack the worse offenders. Some computer cases are designed to make a system quieter (they only have 120mm fans for example). Some graphics cards are specially designed to be quiet (with larger heatsinks for the GPU) and yet are still pretty fast -Asus, sapphire, etc make quiet versions of some cards. Zalman makes quieter heatsink/fans that fit the fastest cards, but read reviews carefully -some cards are very hot. Also stay away from fanless graphics cards and PSU's if you play games --I've been gaming for years and know from experience you want to be able to play for hours without pushing the heat limits too much and worrying about it. There are quiet PSU's with fans.

It's worth quieting your computer if the noise bothers you.

Mine is pretty loud. I got a pretty quiet PSU, but my 5 case fans, plus 2 video cards and a processor fan make up for it. At least they light up and make my compuer look pretty. Its not really noticable with the sound turned up though, but it can kind of get annoying when im not playing games.

Mine is pretty loud, especially when it starts up. It's something to do with the massive fan, I dont know. I dont really pay much attention to it.

Only thing that's noisy in my comp is the gfx card. The rest is all passive cooled with a backup fan on the cpu that automatically turns on if the temp reaches a certain threshold. It's ultra quite too, so I never notice when it turns itself on.

Very quite, a lot seems to have the cool and quiet stuff on, even the GPU barely makes a sound, and when running a big game like COH it doesnt get that hot either, usually around 40.

Hey,

open your case and make sure that nothing is in the range of the fans.

My first computer was very noisy and i accidentally found that all the noise produced came from a wire that was continously hitting the fan :)

Still can be loud, since the radiators have to be cooled (usually with fans). My computer isn't n-e-w, and even if it was n-e-w, it'll still be loud even with 120mm 800rpm SilentX or Panasonic L1 type fans.

My new computer is almost 7 months old, it has 3 fans and is loud and sometimes its so annoying...Guess I need to buy water cooling or change default fans to new more silent ones.
