Yeah, nevermind the server maintenance costs, bandwidth costs, continued tech support, in-game staff support...nobody should have to pay extra for games that supply that kind of stuff....

It definitely seems worth it while you're playing it, since a month doesn't seem that short when you're playing the game. Only until you quit you realize, "Crap! I paid $250 playing this game! And my grades have dropped 2 letter grades!"

Yes WoW is worth the monthly fee.  Thats my opinion, however I would suggest getting a 10 day trial if you can (from a friend who purchased the game) so you can try it and see if its for you.

Yeah you have no idea about MMO's. The answer is yes it is worth it. It's cheap to buy and and $15 is NOTHING. If you work a shift at KFC or some crap like that $15 is what? 1 and a half hours work? That's nothing. MMO's are meant to keep you going for a long time as well so instead of buying a new game every month, 2 months you keep playing for a year or more. The $15 does towards server repairs and costs and also adding new content in each patch.

If I recall, not everybody does pay that $15 a month...I believe that the fee in the Asian market is significantly lower than $15 (and a significant number of those 8 million subscribers are in the Asian market).  Even so, if Bliz is raking in the money from WoW, more power to them...hopefully it'll get them up and working on more projects (Return to Blackthorne might be fun...)

I have to say, its a pretty good ploy to get the dimwitted people's money.  I played the game, and got bored of it at level 30, and it took me 10 days.....

I say no, go save up that money, to get a sweet pair of ram or a DX10 based video card, or enough to take a girl on a date, and then maybe get lucky (chance of getting lucky = -10%, always worth a shot though).

lol.. I would also say NO. If I shelled out the money for the game in the first place, I don't believe I should have to pay to play online, or pay "maintenance fees" for something that should be fully supported, online or not. However, if this kind of service rocks your world, then by all means, pay your $15/month and enjoy. I will be saving my money up for something more substantial... such as mentioned in the above quote

I haven't looked into WOW because of the monthly fee. I don't really care whether it is 15 bucks or less - it doesn't feel right to pay for such a thing, mainly because the game isn't really cheap to purchase to begin with. It would be fair enough to let people pay a monthly fee if the game itself could be downloaded for free, but paying for the game as well smells a little fishy.

Nope, WoW isn't but that's not saying there aren't other games that are worth the $15 a month entrance fee.  WoW just doesn't happen to be one of them.

Oh, and anyone who complains about paying a measly $15 a month to play a MMORPG should seriously consider getting a job.

I'd say it is, as long as you're getting your money's worth.  If you're not playing more than 30 or 40 hours a month, I'd say no.  I played it for awhile, but then found myself growing disinterested, so I cancelled my account right away so I wouldn't waste any more money.

One thing I don't get. You're happy to pay full price for a new game that might only last 6-10 hours, you're happy to pay tousands for high-end compiters, you're happy to buy HDTV's, consoles and all of that but $15? ZOMG so expensive!1!!1. Seriously it sounds like just kids who get their parents to buy them everything but if they have to pay $15 to keep playing it costs too much.

Yeah it kind of adds up if you think about it. 5 years of continuous WOW and you could've spent just as much on a brand new computer. If you don't believe me do the math: 15x12x5= $900

I myself think the game is very fun and can get addicting if you can find the right pairing of race/class and get a good server. The fee is there so the game can be kept at the best quality possible, most MMOs are infact very much the same, and WoW is no exception, pointless "grind fests". However, there are few MMOs which are any good at all and even fewer worth even playing, let alone paying for it or paying a monthly fee. Most games nowadays are evolving into pure online games, and with fewer single player games that are any fun at all, you'll probably need to learn how to use an MMO and WoW is probably a good place to start. Then again you can find a friend to send you a 10-day free trial through e-mail, but you have somewhat limited access, no use of zone-wide channels, no trading, no use of the "Auction House" and unable to join a guild, possibly other things.

It's not the monthly fee that's the problem, it's the crippling addiction associated with WoW. I have broken free from it's iron grasp on my life and I couldn't be happier.

If you're a fan of MMO's or just RPG's in general, then you should definitely give WoW a try. The original game without the expansion is $20 and comes with a month of play time free. A month is probably a little longer than you would play any other game you could get for that price and would be more than enough time for you to figure out on your own whether or not you think the $15 a month is worth it.

IMHO(and the opinion of about 8 million other people) WoW is definitely worth the $15 each month.

If you like MMOs and you spend just 30 hours a month playing, which is roughly 7 hours a week, that's only 50 cents per hour and you can't possibly get that kind of playability in a regular game. Add in the fact that WOW allows you to have up to 10 characters per account and the tilt value for that is amazing. Add in the fact that there are so many quests, pvp, and an interactive economy and guild system and that just builds up even more to do. I believe it's well worth the monthly cost but YMMV.

EDIT ADD: that's something I just remembered...people b!tching and complaining about a monthly fee...I'm pretty sure a good portion of them smoke multiple packs of cigarettes a week or even are addicted to pot...yeah, I don't see any complaints about THAT monthly cost.

Its a drug, and Blizzard is the pusher.

Actually, it's 10 per server...you are allowed 50 characters per account.  Just thought I'd correct that one.

personally i take quite a hard line on fees. i have no problem paying a fee if all the game content is free (ie i never have to pay for extras, its all a part of the subscription...i think eve online has a system like this) and i have no problem paying for a boxed copy if thats all i have to pay for (eg guild wars) but ill be dammed if im paying both to play one game, i dont care how good it is.

Well it saves you money in the long run if all you play is WoW for a few months over buying 2-3 new games so I say its worth it.  You just have to discipline yourself though and not burn yourself out by playing it 24/7.

Agreed, WoW is the same boring garbage over and over....One day all the WoW fanboys will realize how much time and money they have wasted to feed their addiction.
