Ok guys I have been doing a lot of research and am about to build a computer for the first time. I was going to build one a year ago but did not have the money. Here is a list of what I want to get. I have researched the products but want to have some personal opinions on the products since most people on this forum seem pretty knowledgeable. I know I want to get the ATI HD 5870 so if you know of a better one then the one I listed let me know but don't list a ATI HD 5970 because I don't want to spend 600 on my graphics card lol. I really appreciate any help you guys can offer. Also will this setup be able to max out most games? Thanks a ton guys for your help sorry if I come off as a noob lol, just trying to get a good setup. Also I am not trying to go completely broke so any recommendations if they could not be for the most expensive item thanks.

Case: Apevia Black/Black X-Plorer ATX Mid-Tower Case with Clear Side, Fan Controller, Front USB and Firewire Port

MOBO:MSI 790FX AM3 AMD 790FX (this is my biggest struggle becasue I don't know what motherboard to get I am assuming this one is good but let me know if it sucks. Also I would like to get another HD 5870 down the road and run them in CrossFire)

Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz

Graphics Card: SAPPHIRE 100281SR Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT)

Memory: G.Skill 4GB (2X2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

Drive: Sony Optiarc Black 18x DVD-ROM 48X Model DDU1678A

HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.B HDT721025SLA380 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s3.5"

PSU: Kingwin Mach 1 ABT-700MA1S 700W ATX/BTX

Thats a fantastic setup. A lot better than mine but mine was ona tight budget. You should be able to play most games on high. Don't you think you might want a slightly larger hdd? Oh and don't worry about it you don't come off as a noob. I still post ALOT of questions. When you build a PC do you have to configure a bios?

I think you need DDR3. That mobo is an AM3 socket so it wont support DDR2 RAM.

MOBO:MSI 790FX AM3 AMD 790FX

Memory: G.Skill 4GB (2X2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

Is that actually a DDR2 board? The first MSI 790FX board I see from a quick Google is DDR3. It sticks out, because you may want to consider DDR3 for futureproofing.

Ok so this is a DDR3 and it should work right? GeIL 4GB (2X2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066

Just a few more quick questions. That MOBO is a good one then? I read some people complaining about MSi boards but some people praise them. Also that PSU will work even if I CrossFire the HD 5870 down the road? Also I should not experience any bottlenecking between the Processor and the Graphics Card right? Thanks for all your help guys! I will look into a larger HDD any recommendations? I knew I could rely on you guys and thanks for the fast responses.

Looking good, may I suggest this Corsair PSU? Corsair 750W, I am a bit biased to Corsair and OCZ when it comes to PSU due to their reliability. You may also want to look into Coolermaster 690/HAF 932 for a case but thats your preferences. Also make sure to get dual channel DDR3 RAM. Apart from that, it looks good. The 5870 can handle Crysis fine at 1920 x 1200(I don't know your resolution so I am just assuming), and if it can handle Crysis it can definitely breeze through LFD1/2.

Cool thanks for the recommendation. Yea I don't know PSUs that well so I will probably get that one then. I plan on hooking it up to my 52" HDTV. I am assuming since the resolution is 1080p I just have to set the games to 1600x1050 b/c that's closest to 1080p right? Thanks for all of the recommendations guys.

If it is 1080p you set it to 1920 x 1080 because that is what 1080p resolution is.

What's your budget? It'd be easier for us to find a better build for you with one. Here's one for 1226.37

Well, to bring it closer to your budget, there are a few things you can do. If you're not planning to go for crossfire, then you can downgrade that motherboard the the ASUS MA749XTD EVO board, which is slightly cheaper. Along with combo'ing that with the x4 965, and changing the PSU to an Antec TP-550, then you can probably bring it down to ~1171.

Ok cool thanks for that list man. Yea I have wanted to build a PC for a while so I want to build a good one. Will this setup be able to max out crysis? Or still no? Just curious this is not my goal or anything I just want a good gaming PC but I have to admit I have been dying to get that game lol :)

You should be able to breeze through it no problem. That video card could compete with the gtx 295 when it was first released, so you should have no problems with Crysis :D

Oh yeah, found a better PSU for you: OCZ StealthXStream 700W PSU

Thanks ravenguard90!!! Now will that PSU work with the HD5870 in CrossFire because down the road I wouldn't mind running CrossFire to get some more power!!

Unfortunately, no. You'll need at least a 750W PSU, and maybe a really good 650W PSU, in order to run two of them. Give me a sec to see if I can get one to fit in.

actually the ocz one will be able to crossfire i have it and i know (lent my psu to a friend for a day to check his stuff and he was running an i7 with two 4870x2's) ocz stealthextreme is a tier 2 psu which means it is really good and it has i thin 81%-82% efficiency.

Okay, finally managed to fit it in. Unfortunately, the Sapphire 5870/Windows 7 combo ran out, so I lost the savings there. Here's what I came up with:

I changed the case to the Cooler Master 590, but the card should still fit.

Total comes to 1166.71

Huh... Well then, guess he saves more then :P Here's the build with the OCZ StealthXStream 700W. I decided to keep the CM 590 because it looks like it would fit the crossfire 5870's better compared to the Lancool K58:

Sony Optiarc 24x DVD Burner

Cooler Master CM 590

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB Hard Drive

XFX 5870 Video card

OCZ StealthXStream 700W PSU

G.Skill DDR3-1600 4GB 1.35V Memory

Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Processor and ASUS M4A79XTD EVO Motherboard

Might be worth dropping in a fat aftermarket CPU cooler of you're confident with overclocking.

Well, if he is going to overclock, then he will have to get a better PSU. So the costs that come out from it would reach closer to 1200. Of course, if the TC is willing to spend that much more, then he can get this CPU cooler, and this PSU. The new total would come to 1206.70.
