Nah, he'd be better off with a 7990 and a 7970.

That would be a great idea....

No. It can only just max out games at 1920x1080 with playable frames.

a 780ti would be able to play them at good frame rates but not max out every game, for that you would need two of them or two titans even one titan can be slowed down at that resolution.

If you have the money and the right screen and cpu I would sli now and be done with it

The 780 Ti is faster than Titan, however Titan would win if game settings required more than 3GB of VRAM.

Speaking of which, there are 670's and 680's with 4GB VRAM, why no 780 Ti or 780 with 6GB VRAM?

So 780 sli it is? Or ti now and another next month? Idk why I need two of them. 1 7970 is maxing out most games at that resolution with fxaa. Except crysis 3 of course.

If your father is working for AMD, why not get any 290X with 3rd party cooling?? He can't get them cheap?

A month is not long to wait, I would get a 780 Ti now and then another in a month... But with your current set up I don't know why you don't wait for maxwell GPU from nvidia...

That's exactly what everyone was telling him before he ignored our advice and went tri fire (multiple users including myself told him that next gen dev kits won't kick in till 20nm anyways so just wait, not getting a ton of AA/AF at 1600p on last gen dev kits is HARDLY the end of the world......).

The main reason why he doesn't wait is because he doesn't listen..... (everyone told him wait for 20nm/DO NOT do tri fire, yet he did it anyways).

20nm isnt coming out till the end of 2014. Maxwell will be in 28nm. I cant wait a year. thats just too long of a wait.

20nm even with the delay could be here in 8-9 months (a 7990 is plenty till then, even with shitty drivers).

Maxwell isn't 28nm (your confusing a BS rumor with reality). A month or two before the 290x release, some rumors went around that they might release a 28nm Maxwell card q4 2013/q1 2014 to rival the 290x but that ISN"T what happened (they released the 780 Ti and lowered the gtx 780 price).

Maxwell has been confirmed for 20nm for like 3 years......

The thing is, I already sold my 7990 to a friend for a good price.

If I was in your situation I would wait for a third party R9 290 and then overclock it to 1050-1100mhz (you'll be getting 780 ti superclocked performance for only like $420-430 US dollars). Then wait to drop serious money on 20nm

Maxing out every game at 1600p isn't going to be realistic. Turning AA/AF all the way to max kinda defeats the purpose of playing at the 1600P (people buy monitors at 2560x1600p to get smooth lines/resolution out of the box, you shouldn't need more than 4x AA/AF at 1600p).

Its not super hard to get base settings on very high settings on most games. The advance AA/AF is what kills your performance (some games take a 40-70% hit) but you don't have to worry about that since 1600p should clear almost all of the jaggies even without advanced filter options

Really?

I mean you obviously got a lot of money to spend on computers and you don't seem particularly keen on following any advice we give you. So why not just do whatever suits you?

i game at 2560x1440 and use a 680gtx. Most games i play run over 60fps on max, so i think a 780ti should be able to run most games at least 60fps for you... unless they are badly optimised for your cpu or depending on ur cpu.

most games i have frame rate problems with are usually not always slowed down by my video card. some are from the cpu even though i have a 4770k overclocked to 4.5ghz. so even if you have the best video card out there you can't expect every game to max out perfectly. I don't see why you would need more then 1 780ti for 1600p either... that card is overpowered plenty for that res
