i got the aiming part down but im sometimes getting the buttons on the keyboard confusednigby786
It's just like holding that game controller the first time, you hit some buttons you don't wanna hit, but in the end, you are a master.
I'm such a PC guy that when I play with a controller, people think I haven't even played a VG before.
I prefer keyboard and mouse for FPS. The last couple of generations of consoles have improved controller functionality for shooters, but are still lacking to some extend. Particularly with respect to aiming precision. Controllers have enough buttons to cover most of the basics of controls, but the layout is a bit better with keyboards and mice. You can just have a lot more functions keyed rather than using contextual menus and the like as a work around.
I imagine it'll take time if you've only used controllers for shooters, but once you pick it up it'll be a lot nicer. It took me a long time to be able to get used to shooters on consoles. Most of that was due to the Halo control scheme that's been used in every console shooter since.
I've always found keyboard and mouse a very natural feeling control setup for most genres - especially FPS.
If you're really struggling to get into it, consider trying a few of these:
Yeah, though, the keyboard and mouse is just an extremely natural control setup - the FPS genre was literally built around it, they go hand in hand, and with a little practice, you'll be headshotting in no time.

That they did with Wolfenstein 3D. They didn't really get any kind of love on the consoles untill the PS2 and Xbox.
What about Goldeneye and Perfect Dark???
That's only two games buddy, look at the long list of FPS on PC.

The original playstation had a great version of Doom, Exhumed and Quake 2 as well as a passable port of Duke Nukem 3D. The Quake 2 port was actually mouse compatible, and was pretty great. The SNES also had a pretty good port of doom if my memory is working properly, and the Jaguar had a really great Alien vs Predator. Probably the only good game on the Jaguar.
But you and thanatose aren't exactly wrong - fps games weren't recognised by the console mainstream until halo.
it's a bit hard at first but once u get used to the button position (if u used a pc to do word processing then u've probably got that down) and get the "schematics" of their relative position also it's quite easy.
as for mouse aiming, u get used to it really fast, it's actually harder to addapt to an analog then to a mouse
tip: ur base position on the keyboard and mouse should be 1 hand in the mouse and the other on the AWD buttons (index on the D if ur right handed) that's the fastest position for action and movement buttons access
You also can't forget Jurassic Park for SNES that had FPS indoor and 3rd person scroller outdoors.

But don't deny the power of Goldeneye. My high school weekends were occasionally consumed by that game. I would still agree that Halo, and only because of the online multiplayer, made the FPS mainstream on the console.
And honestly, I'm still not sure that console "FPSes" qualify. They're first person and you kinda shoot stuff, but the auto-aim does a lot for you too. To me, they're as much plain action games.
Also, have you ever wondered how lefties play PC FPSes? Just seems weird to me to think about my movement hand being my right hand.
Considering you haven't really played PCs much, it might take some getting used to. FPSs are easiest (in my opinion) with a mouse and keyboard. TheMotherBrain
I fully agree, you have a bette control with the mouse and the keyboard
