I use to play Stronghold: Crusader A LOT although I never got very good at it haha. But I am wanting to play an updated game like it and I saw Steam has Age of Empires III: Complete Edition for $20. But I also have interest in Age of Empires II HD version that is coming out soon. What do you think I should do?

Hard to say, not really the same style of game as airshocker said, but Age of Empires is a fantastic series if that helps.

Strategy games have alot of sub genres, I know some people who like total war series and Anno/galactic civilization2 but cant stand starcraft or Crusader Kings.

Maybe watch some videos on youtube and see how Age Of Empires 2 and 3 are. There is a chance youll love the series, but there is also a chance you wont like it. Enjoying Stronghold doesn't realy mean youll like AOE or every other 'strategy' game out there.

I highly recomend AOE2 and 3 though!

Buy AOE 2 HD its a great game! They are raising the max pop to 500 so the battles are going to bigger and better. I would not recommend AOE 3 to me it felt like it was missing something. I think i played stronghold once or twice and remember it focusing on the little things among the town. AOE 2 has less of that you min gold/stone, cut wood, and gather food and that's about it for economy. The civilizations are great in AOE 2 you can even read their bios in game and learn about them.

Strategy games have different subtypes within the genre. Stronghold is more of a castle simulation game, while Age of Empires isn't.

They are two completely different games like has been said. Whether you would like AoE is hard to say. Personally I have always liked AoE more than Stronghold games, SH isn't bad either, but they are different.

Different games.

Personally, I love Stronghold and turn based games, but I don't like any other RTS games

Never played Stronghold but I've played all of the age of empires and I like them all. I recommend 2 over three. Three veered off a little compared to the older games but still it's an amazing game and is better then most rts games.

If you like computer games in general you will love Age of Empires. It's one of a few games that defines the entire PC gaming experience.

Thanks. Guess I'll just have to decide on one and see how I like it. Are there any other must play RTS's out there that you'd recommend over Age of Empires?

StarCraft II is good if you like competiting with other players. Sins of a Solar Empire is great if you enjoy exploring and space combat.
