So I just watched the trailer for the new Deus Ex: Mankind Divided which looked pretty awesome to be honest.

I've never played a Deus Ex game before but I believe it's sort of an RPG/Stealth/Action FPS ?

I want to play Human Revolution since it sets up the stage for the sequel, but I hear there are two versions: Vanilla and Director's Cut.

Which one should I play?
One one side people say DirCut fixes boss battles and has DLC included, but on the other people say Vanilla has better graphics?

Help.

Thanks.

DC is better, gives you more options and has the DLC built right in instead of a separate 'game', and it looks the same

Well, I played the vanilla because I played at release. The fixed boss battles alone makes me wish I hadn't bought the game at release so I would suggest that.

I have read reviews about the Director's Cut being worse than the original with bugs and performance issues.. Because it is a port from the Wii U version which used a older build than the DX HR that was released on the pc..

I have both on steam and they are identical in most respects, just that DC is more convenient

Directors Cut places the story expansion directly into the plot, making it more cohesive. It also improves the boss battles (which are still too easy).

Definitely get the director's cut - the vanilla is marred (somewhat) by the things that the DC fixes

Get the original.

Uh, not the original release of Human Revolution, but the original game, Deus Ex. It was better than Human Revolution in most respects (except for presentation, obviously).

Yeah I've heard good things about the original.

I just wanted to start with Revolution because it's the direct prequel to this new game.

I remember playing the original Deus Ex years ago and thought it was pretty cool. Then I played the last one and was put off by the gameplay and presentation. The NPC interactions were particularly poor. Terrible animations and stiff characters. The game just lacks the production values of modern games. You play the Mass Effect games and then play Deus Ex and it just doesn't hold up.

Assuming you start with HR, play the Director's Cut. Most of the changes were in response to things the original game didn't do very well. It's really the game that should have been released originally.

Human Revolution was one of the best games last generation, and the original Deus Ex is easily one of the top 5 or 10 greatest games ever made. You are really missing out if you haven't played this series.

The original game was the best of the bunch when released, so ahead of it's time. Though I doubt it would stand up now, I bet it "looks" god-awful.

Edit:

Not as bad as I was thinking

If you liked System Shock 2, Deus Ex is digital sex. They're both a little similar but amazing. My pants tighten every time JC Denton speaks. Truly a man's man, unlike that Jensen pussy. Every time Jensen spoke I started searching for my pillow.

Lol. There is only One Deus Ex to play, and it ain't DEHR (which is in all respects a poor rip off of the classic game).

lol how true.

In the original you were a true badass - with little or no rivals.

In hr, however, you just felt like an ordinary person doing his job.

Also, the whole mystery/conspiracy thing was really fun and fleshed out in the original - but in hr it much shorter and not intriguing in the least.

So I'm up to basically the 4th big map/level (Detroit ???).

Game is great fun. Only negative things I can say for it are:

- Too many hacks needed

- Maps are a bit confusing

- There should be more stealth options

But apart from those things that aren't a deal breaker, having a great time with it.
