Insaniquarium Deluxe by popcap, real addictive... in 30 hours you can get 100% if youre good but you can go further on it... it has a 60 minute tryout...
edit: you can't go wrong with Zuma of Luxor either (these both play the same...)
The utter stupidity of this forum never ceases to amaze me. He said "I need a new SINGLEPLAYER game" and you give him two multiplayer games. Stop trolling.
Diablo? Yes, online is also a large part of these games but I played them for years and years before I even thought of going online.
Civilization perhaps, if you're into those type of games. SupCom too, or at least, I think I'm addicted, although I've only been playing since tuesday I believe. :)
Gothic 2 Gold Edition (it includes the expansion pack), much better than Oblivion imo. Or wait a few days for The Witcher, a promisingsingle playerRPG. Edit: Or Neverwinter Nights 2 + Mask of the Betrayer expansion.
Lots of good games mentioned, but I too would have to go with Civilization. I always have a version of Civ on both my laptop and my desktop, and I always come back to it in-between new role playing or adventure games.
I found Warhammer 40K with all of the expantions to be very addicting i liked the single player story too if ur looking for an RPG go with Kotor its very addictive :)
Everybody has something going on in life, and when your current situation, temporary or permanent becomes unbearable(going to school, lame social life with the ladies, w/e), you find yourself a replacement. MMORPG's. Gotta love 'em.

Peggle is the game you want! You just cannot go wrong with peggle. Its way more addictive than any real game except for maybe wow, and wow is way more expensive and probably not as much fun.

If you like single player rpgs, take a chance on an oldie. Grab Vampire: Bloodlines for 10 bucks or so. Probally one of the best rpgs I've played other than Baldurs Gate and KoToR. You might need to find some patches and player made patches but it is worth the effort. Don't let the age of the game discrourage you. The graphics are still plenty good.

Really isn't all that much, I've played it off and on since it came out.
StarCraft. I've been addicted to it for almost a decade. And I bet it would run on most calculators out these days... and its still sold in retail to boot.
I'm going to go ahead and recommend Vampire The Masquerade : Bloodlines too and I might even reinstall that game myself and play. Also Titan Quest was pretty badass, Grand Theft Auto III or higher, or any Star Wars game.
