I dont know what happened... I was trying to install a new graphics card, but it didnt fit, so i took it out, plugged the old one back in, and started plugging in my newly bought hard-drive, along with my old one... but when i turned it on it wouldnt boot. I tried again, without the new hard-drive, and toxic smoke started coming out of my old hard-drive, along with sparks  I quickly shut it off. I tried again in a vain hope that it would be alright. More smoke and sparks. I dont know what to do. I'm scared to turn it on again. It could kill my new hard-drive, or destroy my entire computer, or set the entire house on fire... any help AT ALL would be appreciated... I think I'm going to have a phobia of touching computers for the rest of my life... and for all I know, my motherboard is fried too...

Well there's no denying that your old HDD is dead already because smoke came out (that's never a good sign). Did you connect all the proper cable in the proper slots?

I think so... I connected it up just like it was before I started... and reread my post, I edited it about 1000 times, it was my old drive. With everything on it

The new one? I didnt even know I had to do that... but when the hard drive got killed, the second drive wasnt plugged in, so it probably wasnt caused by that...

I think maybe the power supply caused this.

i think it might have been the power wires, i had difficulty untangling them and had to cut a few loose (they were tied together with plastic bands) and i might have damaged them there. Or I tried to push it in too hard or... theres a million things that could've gone wrong...

im pretty sure it had something to do with the power supply tho. How would I go about troubleshooting? Like I said, I'm scared to turn it on again :?

Really? How would drivers have anything to do with HDD smoking. Are you sure you plugged the right cables in? What PSU do you have exactly?

DO NOT turn it back on with the old HDD still plugged in.

Well, I seem to have determined that my careless handling of the power cables damaged them and caused WAY too much power to flow to my hdd, destroying it but leaving the rest of the computer (hopefully) completely fine (except the cables). I now want a specialist to come and check exactly what i did wrong, fix it, then install my new hdd and graphics card (which I will be getting a new case for).
