You can save 20-40% on the price if you buy the exsact same parts, but you can do a much better deal and only buy the stuff you like/want, in raw performance you can get 200% performance over a simular priced PC.
I recomend buying parts and assemble @ home, mostly because you get better parts, can skip the crappy case/crappy PSU/horrible flashcard readers/and ûber expencive blueray burner(s) and opt. to put that money on better graphic cards and CPU.
It's no problem to build a PC for $1000 to outdo many $1800 prebuilt PC's. (well, in gaming that is.)
For $1800 would you get a beast if you build it yourself.
