Change the motherboard, since Asus P35 boards seem to be buggy and unstable.

Go for ABIT IP35-E, or Gigbayte D3SL.

The PSU seems to be an overkill. Brands like seasonic, corsair, antec, and enermax are good.

A good PSU is corsair 450W. But if you have plans of upgrading, I would get the corsair 520W HX.

I wouldnt get the 8600GT, the ATI 3850HD is a much better performer for about the same price.

Hey Hacker, how much better would the 8800 gt be compared to the ATI 3850 HD? Worth the $100 difference? If I wanted to run Crysis medium-high would the 3850 HD cut it?

I think the 8800GT is worth the $100 difference.

But with the 3850 HD you will be able to run crysis at medium settings at a medium/low resolution.

For a 8800GT you will be able to run crysis at high settings at a medium resolution.

Parts are alright, I personally would change the motherboard into a Gigabyte P35, and like hacker said, a 3850 has much better performance than a 8600gt. I built my own computer about 2 weeks ago, and I'd say it wasn't that hard at all, you just needed to read the manuals, especially the ones that come with your motherboard. If you're afraid of damaging your PC Parts, you could wear an anti-static wrist strap just in case.

I would say the only problem I had with building my PC was cable management. It's not very well organised. :p

For now I need a motherboard with onboard audio. Does the Gigabyte P35 have onboard audio? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059

It says "8 channels" but it doesn't say Realtek onboard audio or anything.

K, I have it between two motherboards. The recommended P35 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128073

The second one has an option for SLI in the future and is less than 10$ more. What's your guys thoughts?

Get the P35 board, no point of SLi when the next gen nvidia cards are coming soon (Q1 of 2008) which will offer around 2x the performance.

Are the pricing out for those new cards? I was thinking about getting the 8800 gt but I don't want to buy it 3 weeks too early with something better coming out so soon. If they are way too pricey compared to the 8800 gt ill just get that one.

Get the 8800 GT. When nvidia launches its next gen card, they will probably be high end (mid and low come later), and will cost above $+350-400 at least.

I take it you are using a 64 bit operating system? 4gb of ram won't work on a 32 bit op/sys.

Thanks guys, and seems to not be that hard
is there any way to make sure a built computer can last more than 2 years withoutbeing outdated?

It WILL work it just wont "see" all the ram. It will only use 3.0-3.5gb depending on your other parts.

Nope. Your computer is essentially "outdated" Everytime something new comes out, which is about every 6 months in the computer world. However, those parts you listed will last a few years just fine. Maybe even longer if you make the right upgrades here and there. For a MOBO, if youre still looking for one, a Gigabyte P35 board (GA-P35-DS**) All work great for your needs. As I'm going to assume you're a minor and won't have enough money for SLI (So am I), there is no point buying an SLI board. Once you have enough money to buy a second card of the same type, a new generation of cards will come out and one of those cards will outperform two older cards in SLI.

Just my 2 cents :D
