I was reading Engadget when I saw than and nearly spit out the water I was drinking. I never saw this coming. This makes things a little more interesting.kodex1717
I'm at work right now and I almost had a heart attack.......so much for people saying that it is a dead format.

I think instead of one dead format we may now have two. At least I feel better about my HD-DVD add-on now!

Me too. Now if only aCE would make a HD DVD player with DVD-A and SACD support for my other dead formats. (I'm alright in the laserdisc dept. my '89 Pioneer player still works like a charm :D )
Ya I was shocked to hear this...it will be interesting to see if this causes Warner to choose a side as they are the only major studio supporting both now.
hmm so Paramount thinks they can sell more with HD-DVD when its clearly Blu Ray is on top just yet, risky move but interestingdef_modeactually it seems they were paid 150 mil for exclusiveness thru 08, but this deal doesnt count steven spielberg movies, so i dont understand the point cus thats basically their best property. i guess paramount wants a free 150 mil check since hd dvd will be dead if not this year definately next, too much backing and the gap is widening, the 300 sales were heavily in blu ray's favor.
This is the death touch for blu ray... Paramount, Universal exlusive... warner clearly favors HD DVD with superior content and release dates... they will be next. Blu ray is a fad being fueld by PS3... thats it, no differnet then the UMD.Bdking57
I did not realize that Paramount and Universal were the only studios. What about Sony, Lionsgate, Disney, Fox, Touchstone and Columbia? I hardly think Warner Bros will go exlcusive to HD-DVd since 300 on its first day of its release sold 190,000 on Blu-ray and 90,000 on HD DVD.

yeah, guess how many times more they sold on DVD on the first day? The reason for this switch is because HD-DVD is way cheaper, so when consumers start buying HD movies it makes more sense to have your movies on the cheaper, better, format.[QUOTE="Bdking57"]This is the death touch for blu ray... Universal said they were going for the dual formats
And Paramount doesn't have anything I want

Since when did Universal say that?
And I didn't realize how far back I'd have to go to find a Paramount movie I actually did want (other than Transformers).
But since Heroes is only on HDDVD, and the HDDVD version of 300 has better features, I think it's time to buy that 360 add-on.

Of course there are other studios, but Paramount is the largest.
But Touchstone? Touchstone isn't a studio. It's owned by Disney.
