I have a ati 4870 and Im thinking of getting a 6990?

The 6990 sound realy noisy on videos on youtube should I go for the 590 instead. Im thinking of buying it in January as I imagine it will drop in price after christmas. Is there a graphics card manufacturer that makes less noisy fans? I think removing the stock fan might void the warranty.

My processor is a amd phenom2 x4 955 3.2ghz and I have 4gigs of ram. Should I get more ram as well?

no if he wants a dual card setup for that price then the best option is a 6990 + 6970 crossfired

The 6990 is more like two 6950s in Crossfire and the GTX 590 is more like two GTX 570s in SLI.

So, you either spend over $700 on the 6990 or you can run two 6950s (if your MB permits) for roughly $500....or even pick up two 6970s for the same price of the 6990 and get better performance.

The GTX 590 is running over $700 as well. You find a couple of good GTX 570s with rebates and you'd get similar performance of the GTX 590 and only spend around $600 - granted your MB supports SLI.

If you can't do CrossFire/SLI on your MB, I would suggest picking up a GTX 580 if you want the most powerful single GPU and you should be all set.
