Depends on which types of games you like
if you like first person shooters i would consider games such as F.E.A.R, Quake 4, Doom 3, Unreal Turny (2004 the most resent untill UT 3 comes out) Prey wasa very good game.
if you like Role Playing i would choose Elder Scrolls Oblivion or morrowind both are great. Vampire the Masquerde: Bloodlines was a great game (well all but the glichs but patchs can fix that) Star wars knights of the Old Republic I and II was good if you like console style Rpgs.
If you like Stragtey stylegames i think that the new Command and Conquer is great, Supreme Command is another. Lord of the rings battle for middle earth was good. if your willing to go old school i liked the myth series very much.
if your into MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer online Role playing game) every one seems to like World of warcraft even though i found it to repetive and simple but besides that. i have recently been playing City of Heroes/City Of Villians, Anarchy online, and Lord of the Rings Online. all are good but each is very differnt from the other
