I don't know much about TV's so hopefully someone out there does.I'm getting a TV for the holiday coming up...I need to get it from Dell.com...

I found this Vizio 32" and this Philips 32".
The Philips is 1080p which I know enough to know that it's better than the Vizio 720p. But again...I don't know much.

I'd appreciate some help on what's good on the Dell site.

There is a price limit...anything under $700 is do-able.

Main use for my TV is my 360 and possibly hooking up my PC to it. It's going to be my personal TV in my bedroom. I will watch movies but no blu-ray player yet.

I just don't know where to look for TV advice...kind of overwhelming.

Bestcovery - Best Plasma & LCD TV is another good resource. They have Best LCD TV Overall, Best Picture Quality for the Money, etc -- seems to answer a lot of the questions frequently posted in this forum.

what's the difference between the Samsung 40" 1080p LCD and the Sony Bravia 46"1080p LCD other than contrast ratio and the size? What is better to view blu-ray movies on in 1080p?

The difference is the refresh rate. The Bravia is 120Hz (twice as much as the Samsung) which means the colors change twice as fast, to make for a sharper, more clean image. 120Hz is one of the newer features on TVs, and it'd better to watch Blu Rays in

oh sweet. I was curious becaue I wanted to upgrade from my Samsung 32"720p TV. I was saving the money to buy a bulldog puppy but those puppies cost more than the hospital bill when I was born.Another thing there is a Sony TV that is 32" 1080p with the refresh rate of 120hz but I heard from people that 1080p is not worth it with anything under 40". Is that valid?

Technically you can't see the difference in 1080p until you get into the 52" range.

Press the menu button on your remote and look around for a "game", or "entertainment" setting, it might even auto detect that it's a game system.

Technically, no, let me rephrase that. 100%, you dont have a clue what you are talking about.

1080p is 1080p which is 1920 x 1080 and will always be 1920 x 1080. This doesnt change due to screen size. 1080p at 22" will look the same as 1080p at 52" if both are viewed at the correct distance. Its the same resolution, screen size itself has nothing to do with it. Its the viewing distance in relation to screen size.

Blackburn, we are on the same situation right now. I am confused about which among the two brands should I choose. I am also considering the 52" Samsung right now especially that Alereon already announced a wireless USB extender. Hope someone can give us a straight answer which product and model they are going to recommend.

just get a hdmi cable then let yhe system auto detecting vidoe settings. on 360 you might have to switch it to 720 p in the system settings since you had it on a sdtv before you bought your new tv.

do you have a ps3? if so just hook it up to that with a hdmi wire and select auto detect video settings. and the screen will say what ever your max res is. it will come up either 1080 i or 1080 p and if it dont then its only 720 p. if you miss it when it shows you after you first turn on the power just put a movie into the system and hit display on your tv and it will show you again.

When I play games on my hdtv I notice certain things are very blocky or fuzzy like loading screens and cut scenes. no problem with actaul gameplay graphics though.

example when bioshock 2 starts up the 2K animation looks blocky as does the final cutscene

also I dont experience this on a regular tv

You can even use it to receive and record cable HDTV programs using only basic cable and NO CABLE BOX. And you can use your monitor or any size HDTV to display your programs, in 5.1 surround sound if you want.

I'm looking to get a new HDtv, particularly a 32" for my PS3 gaming. Should I be looking at 100hz or 200hz? Also, is there anything else I should be looking for, feature-wise?

Sorry for the late response, but maybe this will still be helpful to you. I just went through the "need a new TV and I'm lost" phase. Did A LOT of reading and research and finally made a purchase a few months back. I got a 32" Panasonic LCD and I honestly could not be happier. I highly recommend Panasonic TVs especially for gaming. Most popular brands use VA type panels which look great, but they generally don't handle input lag very well. As a gamer, input lag is a pretty big concern (lag where there is a delay from when you hit a button on a controller to when it responds on the screen). Panasonics use IPS panels in their sets which usually have much lower input lag numbers. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

I have literally just posted a thread about wanting a new TV and coming across a panasonic model. This post has somewhat helped :)
