The 4870 & GTX260 will perform the same in games.

The GTX260 has PhysX, CUDA, TWIMTBP, runs cooler and NVIDIA generally have better driver support for new games.

So unless the 4870 is significantly cheaper i personally recommend the GTX260!

The GTS 250 for the price. It's just a revamped version of the 9800GTX+.

EVGA 512-P3-1150-TR GeForce GTS 250 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

The GTX 260 for performance. Now that it's as cheap as a HD 4870 with the recent price cut, it's hard to not choose it, as it has, as said above, better driver support, better cooler, less power consumption, and better performance.

if Crysis games are of much concern they are optimized for NVIDIA. Then I would say the GTX 260 core 216. But I have aXFX4870 1 gig and it performs well.

It all depends if you're going to play with high resolutions and AA.

ok, so the 260 has better optimsied games, better performance and runs cooler?

But those benchies disagree?

Lol there's lots of different points of view.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go with the 4870 :P but i'll wait a few months for a price cut when the new 4790 comes out. thanks :P

The GTX 260 core 216 model outperforms the 4870 512MB model in most cases by 5-10%. The 4870 1GB, however, seems to outperform the core 216 in most games. Both cards are a great choice in my opinion. The 4890 is releasing the first week in april I think?

Edit: And it appears the 4870 handles AA better.

Not to sound like a fanboy, but if you made your decision off one set of benchmarks clipped from another site @ a resolution you didn't say you were going to run, you are seriously an uninformed consumer.

yah so how about you provide another benchy clipmark and inform him then. or are you just as uninformed, as to be incapable of providing one?

Dude, chill out- All I said was that it is a bad idea to make a large purchase off of a single bench (and may I add UNCITED) source. I consider that true for any consumer. If I went to BestBuy got a plasma TV based off the review of an employee, I would consider myself an idiot... do you disagree?

Edit: and if you check my post, I didn't even say which I thought was better.

Just in case you're still misinformed TC, here's a couple of benchmarks from TOM'S HARDWARE.

Crysis 1280x1024 0xAA

Crysis 1920x1200 4xAA

apparently my post went way over your head. you said a clipped benchmark was useless, and that he was uninformed. which doesn't help him at all.....

so i said ok inform him then.

then you post the quote above, and notice the red highlight....great you fail to inform him. then you go and post a benchmark EXACTLY like the one that you were complaining about.....again WHY? but don't worry someone found some reviews and quality benchmarks for you.

Why not search a more reputable hardware site like anandtech. Check out their article on multi-GPUs and review/comparison of the GTX 285. Do a little research and please make an informed decision.

But, if I had to choose at this point and time, it would be a very hard decision. With a couple new GPUs coming out, and possibly completely new GPUs by the end of this year, thats one heck of a decision. As far as I've heard and experienced, I would go the nvidia route.

It is not trolling, I was proving how sources can be unsourced and biased. I thought the red, italic, bold, large text would show it was sarcasm. Technology is an investment, and it is a bad idea to invest based on a single source. That is all I ever said this thread, and that is all I am going to say in it. I don't know why you took offence to it, or took anything personally from it.

Can't anyone else back me up here?

i didn't take anything personal from it, i just didn't like how you disagreed with everyone's opinion because they didn't back it up and then you did the same thing, except everything was centered on the posters not the topic. thats why i chimed in and asked if you could provide some info to inform him. anyways the tc now has his answer so all is good.

ok thx and it wasnt an uninformed decision, I've made a few of these threads and the majority of people usually say 4870. I think I'll wait a few months, when the new gpus come out with some decent drivers and benchies and see if I will buy the new cards or current cards with the new prices. thx :P

thx, I think i'll research it a bit more as the benchmarks are close and one is better at one game and one at another.
