My Friend just bought a GTX 460 Zotac OC and in almost every game it white screens or freezes (except a couple) we have tried 3 different drivers and completely re formatted and installed windows to no avail.

BFBC2 is the main culprit. it after a while it freezes and goes to a white screen. this happens in other games as well but is more promenint in BF2. Now we can play C&C3 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 all day with no problems.

He is running a Raidmax 730W PSU but it only has 1 PCI-E cord with 2 6 Pin connectors coming off ov it.

Here is what it is Link When we run benchmarks its right where it should be as he is running an AMD Phenom X2 550 it brings the scores down a bit (to be expected)

He is also running 4 hard drives 2 extra fans and a standard DVD player.

My main question is, Is it a PSU or GPU problem?

I'm inclined to think that it's probably the Raidmax PSU. They make some of the shoddiest PSUs that I've ever seen. You'd be better off with a 500 watt Antec or Corsair than a 730 watt Raidmax.

There is the possibility that it could be the GPU, but I'd test it in another PC (one with a nice PSU) before laying blame on it.

I was just on newegg and somone made a post (in the same page as the GPU) that it needs 2 12v connectors at 24a The thing is im not sure what thos are. Are they the PCIE 6 Pin Connectors? because like i said in my first post it only has 1 cable with 2 6 pin connectors coming off of it.

return the card and get a 6850. If the 6850 works then you know that the psu can't handle a card that requires 2 pci-e connectors. BTW you can get a 6850 dirt cheap on sale like this one for $139.99

Well we are trying the 4 Pin molex to 6 pin (less volts more amps) and if it still fails im going to grab my Antec 650w from my PC and try that out (runs a OC 4870 nicely)

Good news Plugged in 1 Four Pin Molex to 6 pin PCI and that fixed all the problems. no more crashing 100% stable

Would still buy a new PSU, to be honest. 730W modular PSU for $60 just screams cheap and nasty.

Well he would buy a new one if he didnt spend the rest of his money on on a GTX 460. BTW what dose a GPU use more? AMPS or Volts? Because with the 4 Pin molex im i guess its getting 25Amps instead of 24 and 5v instead of 12v

I don't know a lot about electricity, but amps * volts = watts. So it probably wasn't getting enough watts, running off the one rail.

Well, amps is electric current. Volts is just electric pressure. So, I'm pretty sure a GPU would be more concerned with amps.

Get more amps by increasing voltage or reducing resistance.
