I recently upgrade my PC with a new motherboard, graphics card, RAM and PSU.

ASUS M2N-E SLI Motherboard
AMD Athlon X2 6000+ CPU
Kingston 4GB (4x1024) 800MHz RAM
Inno3D 1024MB Geforce 8600GT
Average 350W PSU

I know they are all compatible but for some reason after playing a game for a few minutes the computer crashes and the graphics become very pixellated and weirdly coloured. Also it seems to occur quicker in higher requirement games. It is in quite an old case so I have a feeling the GPU is overheating. I have used a temperature monitor and the motherboard is running at around 28 - 32 celsius and CPU are running at less than 45 celsius but the GPU hits mid 60s easily.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Nope, it happened a couple of times when I had got it. I loaded up The Sims 2 and it did it about 5 or 10 minutes into the
game.

You might have a faulty GPU.

On a side note: Personally, I wouldn't have bothered with one of those 8600 1GB cards. They're more of a gimick then anything. You should have looked into spending an extra $40-60 and picked up a 8800GT 512MB card. But that's just my opinion.

Fair enough but I was on a budget so I decided to go for a more.. affordable GPU. And thanks AwA that was my dads idea, I was going to get a 500W but he said that I didnt need one that good... should have just ignored him.

Right I have replaced the PSU with a new 650W PSU but after playing B&W2 for about 20-30 minutes the same crash occurred.

does this issue happen in all of your games or just this one ?

its ether your GPU is damaged or its just crashing in this game only (if so just lower your resolution)

Look on the side of the PSU for me, what make is it? How many +12v rails does it say, and what are the Amp ratings on those rails?

There are two +12v rails and they are 23A each.

On the old one there were two as well but they were 10A and 13A.

That PSU should be more then enough to run that card. I know that my 8800GTS 640MB recommends a minimum of 400W and 24amp. My PSU is a 750W with....I believe it's 72amp across the +12v rails. So I don't see your PSU as being an issue.

It sounds more then likely that you have a faulty GPU....other then that, I'm not sure what else the problem could be.

Ok in that case I'm tempted to email the place I bought it from and request a replacement because there is nothing I have done to it to damage it. Thanks everyone, if I get it resolved I'll probably post back here just to update everyone.

You should see if there is a warrenty far the graphic card and if so call them up and send it back to them instead of sending it back to the store where you got it from.

I have had the problem as well and I try and get my graphic cards with a lifetime warrenty and it is a good thing cause all I do is call them up and tell them what the problesm is and the I send them the old one and then they send me a replacement and so far I have had no problems with them at all. This was with my old card a bfg 7600 gt oc 256mb.

I have bought a new one and that to is a life time warrenty on it so I'm confident in all ways having a card that shoould work.

60c for a graphic card is pretty normal.... they just run at high tempertures compared to a CPU.

Have you tried taking out all your sticks of ram but 1.... and see if it crashes then? It'll be memory related if it turns out it doesn't crash. If using one stick turns out okay, then add another stick....to activate duel channel mode (follow the motherboard manual to see what slots need to have sticks to turn on duel channel mode). If turns out okay.... try the last 2. If it start crashes again.... then you know something is up with the memory. Like maybe the timing setting are wrong, or you have a bad stick.

You know.... 45c is pretty high for a CPU, is that at idle? Did the CPU come with a heatsink.... did you remove the paper from the bottom of the heat pad on the heatsink? Just making sure...is all.

...you are probably right about it being a bad video card.... but with self-built PC's.... it can really be anything, causing it.

--------------------

The warranty the other guy speaks of.... is the warranty on the box. Factory warranty.... So... you'd have to find info on the box and manual, and maybe go to their website for clearer info. Probably be easier just to return it to the place you bought it from.... I don't see anything about a restocking fee on their pages or hidden charges other than postage..... but I only skimmed it.... you read it.

http://www.cclonline.com/help-warranty.asp looks like you probably have 30 days.... according to the last line.

http://www.cclonline.com/help-returns.asp

http://www.cclonline.com/rmarequest/index.asp Fill this out.... and wait for email response.

That card should be nvidia and if that is so then you should be able to goto there site and see what the warrenty one it is or you could go online and type in the name of the card and act like you are going to buy it and usually on the web site it tells you what the warrnty.

What I usually do is look to see what kind of warrenty it is before I go and buy my self a new graphic card.

If it has like 12 months laber and some thing else for 12 months then to me I don't get those. I try to stay with the ones that have a life time warrenty on them.

Just looked on my nVidia MonitorView and it says that the CPU has a voltage of 1.5500V and it is red meaning it is overstressed, could this be causing the problem and if so how can I solve it?
