@timmyp1982: No you don't up to date cpu can play recent games at lowest setting 720p resolution and play indie games too. Older cpu can play little indie games too probably like FTL etc.
I'm just going to test fallout 4 just using my I76700k 4.5ghz. Probably have to do it on low settings with everything off and at 720p 30fps.

not to be pedantic, but that's because you aren't understanding the hardware. Historically, MOBOs often came with an integrated GPU solution, which is why they were able to display graphics without a discrete card; now days, what you are referring to as a CPU is almost exclusively a chip that includes a GPU. So yes - the OP DOES have a GPU. We don't know where it is, or what type, but there's one in their machine somewhere. Your I7 6700K has an HD530 integrated GPU.
When you mount a discrete graphics card on your MOBO, the system defaults to use that for graphical processing instead of whatever integrated GPU you have.

You can run Direct3D games on Swiftshader 3 (very fast Direct3d 9c renderer for X86 CPUs)
