Is it safe to play Fallout 2 without having ever played the original, or am I missing something related to story/whatever?

Thanks. D:

you can play the second game without having played the first. you'll get some references to the first game throughout, but you don't need to have played the first to understand what's going on in the second. having written that, i'd strongly recommend you play the first, cuz...well, it's awesome.

I would play the first one its really good and the second one makes reference to some events. But you can still finish it

It came in a Fallout Collection with 1,2 and Tactics

just get that.

I guess if you can't find the first one or don't have it, just wikipedia the 1sts story and enjoy the second one. There are a few things you might not get just from playing Fallout 2

Yeah, in fact that was the way I entered to the Fallout universe, backwards.
