many people who stil have AGP slots will be very happy, but if you do have it then maybe it is time to go PCI-E (aka new mobo) if your planning on gaming in the future.

Yeah because I have an AGP system that's actually fine apart from the video card: Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz, 2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Radeon 9800XT, 375W PSU. So I hope DX10 cards such as the 8600 come to AGP because it will be a cheap way to future proof my machine.

and you are trusting the INQ?  They are known to eat their own words in the end of the day when the item does come out.  Like their rumor of DX9.0L as a DX 10 based essential for XP..............

OK, I believe you (somewhat) but all I can say is "Time will tell".  If you are right (in this case, the so-used-to lying INQ) then it will be good for the people who are too lazy to spend at least 40 bucks more and buy a new motherboard (people, you can sell your old equipment, there are plenty of people who will buy it!).

I am not 100% sure. Also, I am sure they will cost a small fortune. Way more then if you just got a new motherboard and the pci-e version.

The 7800GS is even worse. It's easily double the cost of the PCI-E version.

I don't see why they wouldn't. I mean I run pretty much every game on max graphics with my AGP 850xt/pe (fear, bf2, CSS). I wouldnt definitely pick up one of those AGP dx10 cards.

Looking at the power requirements, the 8600GT only consumes 43W at load, and so it will only require one molex connector if it comes to AGP.

No Never agp8x will starve g'80's unless maybe on a 8300 but I doubt that. AGP is dead and will stay dead.

i'd say its possible, don't dismiss it yet, and its not hard to do it for nvidia either, 128 bit bus and pin-to-pin compatibility same as the 7600 which exist in agp, dx10 for agp why not.

It doesn't need any molex connector....

And no, the mid-low G80s will not be starved by AGP.
