I was given an older comp with a duel 7800gt sli setup. Currently I am running a 8400gs.
Probobaly should go with the SLI setup right?
I hate being broke =( ....

A single 7800gt is way better than an 8400GS for gaming, so yeah.. definitely the 7800's in SLI. What you could do is sell the 8400 and both 7800gt's, and get a decent, modern GPU.

7800gt = 8600gt
dual 7800gt's = single 8800gts (g82)

Except with less framebuffer. Those 7800's must be 256mb cards, so you're really only getting 256mb of framebuffer.. plus you don't get 2x the performance of a single card. It's not going to be quite as good as a G80 8800 GTS 320.
It seems everywhere I go, you're there .. just recommending SLi setups over single card setups ...A single 7800gt is way better than an 8400GS for gaming, so yeah.. definitely the 7800's in SLI. What you could do is sell the 8400 and both 7800gt's, and get a decent, modern GPU.

I only recommend it if it makes sense. I actually told the OP to sell all 3 cards and get a single card, but I guess you didn't notice that. But yeah, even a single 7800gt mops the floor with an 8400gs, so why wouldn't I recommend 2 of them in SLI over the 8400?
For gaming, 7800 GT SLI is better, but I also think you could sell your cards and get a used GeForce 8800 series or Radeon 4800 series card instead.

ACTUALLY, I did notice that. Realistically though, who's going to buy an 8400 GS and something as ancient as a 7800GT, much less for enough money to buy a better GPU with?A single 7800gt is way better than an 8400GS for gaming, so yeah.. definitely the 7800's in SLI. You can get a used GeForce 8800 card pretty cheap and it's still better than dual 7800's.

If he sells all 3, he can get something with DX10 support and 512mb of RAM, no problem. People buy anything.. look at Ebay. I've sold things older than that.

7800 GT's don't seem to go for much nowadays :?

Of course they don't. But neither do 9600 or 8800gt's. He could easily afford one of those off ebay with the money from selling the 8400gs that he says he already has, as well as the 7800gt's. Think outside the box. I'm actually selling an Asus 9600GT TOP on ebay right now, and I don't expect it will bring over $45, based on what I'm seeing from other sales. You just have to be smart and know how to sell and buy.

I've just watched a few 8800 GT's go from anywhere in between $40-$60 on ebay, and this isn't taking into account the shipping costs. So while I do agree that it would be good for the OP to sell his current cards in exchange for a decent midrange card, I believe it would be best to err on the side of caution and advise the OP that he/she would possibly have to shell out $20-$30 in the process.
-EDIT- Bloody awful grammar

You can get more than $40 to $60 by selling an 8400GS and 2 7800gt's. There's no reason why the OP couldn't pick up an 8800gt and still have a few bucks to spare actually.
